It's official!! Today has been the windiest day of the month here in Bristol!

Just had a gust of 35mph, which has exceeded the previous best gust of 34.1mph set on the 6th!!

Pressure's rising here now and the breeze is easing a bit! Now an amazing sustained wind of 8mph!! Wow, I hear you all say!! Lol!

Passanger ferries still going from Larne (Belfast) and Dublin. A lot of traffic suspended though http://www.bbc.co.uk/travelnews/ferry/

I can tell from experience of very rough crossings most passengers will be half relieved if they get a sudden cancellation. I've been thrown around on that sea before and it is very scary.

Gusting far stronger here now and wind enterring straight in the kitchen air extractor despite the cover. Nice temperature though.

Are we still expected to get the worst of it from tea time today?

Latest report from Malin Head (very top of Ireland) as center approaches to the North. Last hour mean 44 knots, Gust 60 knots. That's 69 mph. Some way to go to be a storm they would talk about in a weeks time if you know what I mean.

latest from the forth road bridge's website

"Winds are forecast to increase to between 70 and 80 mph mid-afternoon, at which point it is likely that the bridge will be restricted to cars only.

A full closure will only be implemented if winds exceed 80 mph"

Very gusty here in the last 40mins or so. Quite a few wheelie bins over (why do people leave them on the pavement argh! Rubbish everywhere now!) and our plastic playhouse has moved across the garden!

Wasnt expecting this in Essex...wind has picked up quite a bit now in last 15 minutes

Yep strongest winds of the year here for me. It seems quite a few of the Eastern side of the country are experiencing these Gusting winds to about 30-40mph. Wonder why places further west seem to have not had these gusts ??

Yes and so are the professional forecasters believe it or not...

I have walked in the January 2005 storm when wind gusts reached in excess of 100mph in Cumbria.

Professional forecasters give warnings for 1cm of snow, so what's your point :p

Good call on whoever it was yesterday saying Pennine lee-waves would be a possibility today. XCweather shows this quite well now, with ever increasing gusts to the East across the spine of the Pennines.

I have never seen a weather warning for 1cm of snowfall?

70-80mph gusts of wind are dangerous, whats your point?

Not a great deal happening here in Perthshire, yes a little windy but at the moment amounting to very little. Still under the impression that the heavier winds will not be until later on this afternoon and into the evening. Best get the dog out now for a walk.
