I don't know what to believe, we have the amatuer experts on the forums predicting potential of masses of snow for the SE between now and Sunday yet the the professional experts at the Meto are having none of it!

I guess we will know who was right soon enough and I think the marganality is the issue as if it was guaranteed the Meto would have put warnings up by now, they certainly did last year 2-3 days in advance.

I just can't help feeling that mother nature is going to suprise everyone here and we will have to wait just a little longer for anything truly wintery :(

It is 'snowing' very, very lightly here in Tunbridge Wells - tbh would not dignify it with the name 'snow'... It is barely visible against the background of the grey murk. The MetO and Netweather are forecasting snow for me this afternoon, but if it is more of the same I will contain my excitement. Am seriously considering moving to Bulgaria...

I see there is still stuff like this about from last nights run:

post-6667-0-04416400-1327995971_thumb.pn

I realise I am the eternal optimist, but I just can't understand the negativity when all I see is a week full of possibilities - perhaps I'm naive?

I mean, which snow lover wouldn't take this next Monday morning?

post-6667-0-26658400-1327996326_thumb.pn

:unknw:

This snow lover wouldn't like it.

I'm driving from Crystal Place to Gatwick airport at 3am Tuesday and getting on a plane to a very hot sunny country :p so if any major snow could hold off till say 9.30am I'd be very happy. Sitting for hours at an airport because of snow is not part of the holiday experience!

Happy New Year to you all!!!!!!!!!!!!! first post of 2012 - My OH working in Rayleigh, its snowing there and is settling on car roofs!!

Wow that is Localised.

Am about 4 miles East of Rayleigh and it is boring old rain and cold rain at that.

Temp 2.7c

Dp 1.8c

Way way too warm - Where are these frigid conditions, I would have expected us to be cold enough by now ?

Check this out

A similar example here to the one above, although using northern hemisphere charts from 6 days

ago.

Todays 12z ECM chart is used for verification purposes.

Todays actual chart> GFS 6 days ago>

ECM 6 days ago> GEM 6 days ago>

UKMO 6 days ago>

Seems that the gfs did best on this occasion,as the other 3 models all underestimated

the strength of the blocking high, especially up near Svallbard, although it does have that

random shortwave just west of the UK!

The UKMO is by far the worst performer in this case as it just wanted to smash the block in half.

Can see why they got the snow covering wrong then sigh, reports of a 1-2cm of snow on the north downs

More dandruff snow this morning.

On the drive in they said the MetO was now forecasting 100% chance of severe cold weather and snow by the end of the week.

Cloud should break in a few hours time as this satellite animation shows, with a clearance coming from the east.

http://wolken.buienradar.nl/nl

I think we'll have to wait until tomorrow pm, when some colder upper air appears on our doorstep with a strengthening ENE wind. Not expecting too much at the moment, as the models seemed to have backed off a bit from the really cold uppers shown yesterday, that we would probably need to counteract pressure of 1035+ mbs. Might have to wait until the weekend, when we might have a decent snow event, that hopefully stays as snow.

Regards,

Tom
