It's going to be a very close thing. Looking at this mornings runs the precip comes to our region wen the upper air is not quite cold enough. By wednesday morning we are under -6 & -8 but the precip has gone. So it could snow, but only if the colder uppers dig in a little faster than currently predicted.

If it does snow I really don't think much will stick after the rain first and unfavourable surface temps.

Like coast, I'm still hoping! :)

ecm also keeps snow to our west (and to our north and south lol). yup it pretty much surrounds us but misses!

I think if you look at this way, if we get a cloudy northerly/northeasterly at this time of the year with Heavy Snow fall and cloudy uppers during the daytime you will get settling snow, as technically the sun would be near enough powerless to melt through a thick layer of cloud.

hehe. me too! tuesday night might be a long one! would be great if we can muster a few snow showers during the day wednesday too...

i remeber the April 2008 event - i got some pretty heavy wet snow which settled, didnt hang around long but was impressive for April.

Latest BBC forecast similar to this mornings ecm with area of snow slipping down from west midlands into bristol / bath areas but rain for us in the lighter precip.

Hoping for improved 12z's....

easter weekend could go either way

Hi john

Looking at this mornings runs it looks like for the easter weekend hp will be close enough to our west to keep things dry and temps prob around average with a cool nw flow.

Great for gardening :)

Nae also going with snow in similar position to ecm.

Somewhere in s eng is gonna get snow....and will only take a small shift east of the heavier precip for that to be us. Anyone with access to NMM over the next 24-48 hours pls free to enlighten me/us :)

It would be interesting to see snow - and typically I have booked time off - wed and thursday so it will be bound to be cold. I have to say I dont actucally mind if it does snow and to be fair Id rather it did something like rain even on day off. the ground is far too dry and we need some rain....then for the weekend nice and bright..;)

I can see surprises aplenty in the next 48 hours - a lot of energy along the thermal boundary at a very shallow height on current modelling

In readiness for the upcoming wintry snap I have just visited my local supermarket to stock up on essentials. Whilst buying the obvious (soup, bread, batteries, shaving gel) I noticed that there were pineapples on sale for £1. I find it baffling how a pineapple, which undoubtedly comes from further away than the Surrey hills, can be sold in the UK for £1. Anyway, I bought one and am looking forward to sitting in bermuda shorts in the deckchair as it sleets, with the sounds of Misty in Roots playing in the background.

Can there be anything more satisfying for £1 than a nicely plump pineapple?

I may regret that question.

Hoping for last minute changes tomorrow but not expecting it

ecm 12z has the high pressure further west

have a look at t96

a shift slightly further west of the high pressure will

totally change the easter forecast

http://www.meteociel.fr/modeles/ecmwf.php?ech=72&mode=0&map=0&type=0&archive=0

i am still not convinced about easter yet

also look at 216 and 240 on ecm

looks like the azores high has been forced south

typical.

gfs 12z ensembles

http://www.wetterzen..._London_ens.png

certainly not a warm one

precipitation spikes have increased again

also fantasy island from the 7th

still over 10 degree difference showing

re snow this week

i will follow the radars and i still expect us to see some wednesday or thursday

to abruzzi

something more satisfying for a £1

a winning lottery ticket

I guess those charts show a reasonable, if none too spectacular Easter. Any significant shift west of the high pressure would likely mean cold and unsettled in this part of the World - I hope it doesn't happen, at least over the holiday period anyway.

Can't get remotely excited about Wednesday, whether it's rain, sleet or snow. Even if it did snow, it would immediately become a slushy mess and be gone in hours. Let's face it, it looks a pretty grim day; cold, wet and windy. Central heating on full again. Still, at least it's in the working week ( for those not on holiday )

Good point John but you have to trade off untold riches against one of your 5 a day. I know which I'd choose.

OK, it's not the pineapple.

48 hour fax has triple point low over the south east

the colder air is a whisker behind

http://www.meteociel.../fax/fax60s.gif

the 60 hour fax has the low passed through with the colder air

wednesday evening will probably be when we may see rain turn to snow

http://www.meteociel.../fax/fax96s.gif

t96 has a cool north west flow

should be dry

however there looks like a front over norfolk which may

give some showers friday night.

http://www.meteociel...fax/fax120s.gif

t120 looks like high pressure over us

very light north westerly flow should be quite pleasent.

however plenty of precipitation over scotland and cold air

not to far away to our east.

Chances of any white stuff for our region now receding a bit, still some indications but Kay Forster on BBC SE Today, was sure that it would all be to the North of us:

Definate downgrade from the MetOffice this morning for the South East tomorrow. No mention of any sleet or wintry showers now, just rain and temperatures of 11C. Hardly outstanding for early April! Also yesterday was warmer than predicted and they are now predicting highs of 14C today whereas yesterday they were predicting highs of 12C. I recall this sort of thing happening a lot with forecasts during the 1997-2008 period.

As I was saying yesterday - just plain old rain for us!

Let's hope this high pulls through over the weekend to give some pleasant days again with temps in the mid to high teens.

This weather can do one, pointless having a stiff NE breeze with cold drizzle/rain for the Easter weekend.

Gotta admit I'm really jealous with the several hours snow predicted for some parts where it stalls. If anything this mornings runs have pushed the snow risk a bit further west rather than a bit east that I was hoping for. Was very close, if front didn't stall and cold air didn't mix out it would have been quite different.

Certainly not a Midlands northwards exclusive event.

Ah well at least my new plants will be happy :)

I've got to say that the scenario in Spring, where we get a northeast breeze, which can lead to a week or so of cold, sunless weather (whereas many parts away from the East coast have pretty reasonable weather at the same time.. ) is generally my least favourite type of weather.

I really don't like the thaw stage of snow, so a snowfall immediately followed by a thaw, is never going to get me excited.

Horses for courses I suppose.
