Don't think out region will see any wintry PPN out of this coming cold phase.

Pressure remains relatively high, keeping us mainly settled & with uppers only a degree or so below freezing on average, it be a bit much to ask for.

Feeling optimistic about the upcoming winter for our region though. Think we will do better than last year!

To be fair I don't think it is very hard to beat 6 days of laying snow for last winter! truely awful cray.gif Some places didnt see a single day I don't think?

Hello fellow Southerners.

The winter season is fast approaching and I know many of you would like a cold, snowy one so with this in mind, I have a plan. I have it on good authority that one person in our midst is the trigger we need for snow, or more correctly their absence is a trigger for snow in these parts. Apparently every time they leave the country seeking snow elsewhere, we get a major dumping here. So....who's up for a whip round to send them off on an extended holiday? Obviously the longer period you would like to have snow here, will mean the longer they have to be away, so I think it's only fair that your contribution should be larger than someone who just wants a cold snap around Christmas. I'll open the pot with 20 quid for the holiday to last from 23rd December through to Feb 1st.....

Mullender, you'd better check how your boss feels about using up all your holiday in one big chunck.

Haha I have 2 weeks booked for the first 2 weeks of january.... going on a longer holiday to mark my 30 th birthdayhelp.gif I have a feeling you will get a good winter... bad.gif

Fabulous.

So you've already got two weeks paid for, we just need to raise the dosh for you to spend the festive season there too, and hopefully a couple of extra weeks tacked on to the end of your hols.

May have to split it between resorts though jeth as no one resort is going to be able to cope with a thaw that lasts longer than 2 weeks! lazy.gif I really hope my bad luck has run out regarding snow not ever falling on a ski holiday. Just once please.... Only ever seen rain in a ski resort!!! Although it was a little sleety on the highest slope in 3 valleys sorry.gif

I'm hoping for a great winter here in bournemouth. It's a big long shot but you never know! Just would be lovely just once to have proper snow that lays for more than a day!

And something exceptional is brewing..........

So where do we think will be the first place in the region to see snow? Tops of the Moors, top of the Cotswolds or the Mendips?

First places are normaly moors so it will probably be between dartmoor matt myself and jeth or cotswolds if first event is marginal however if it is cold enough with frontal snow maybe bournmouth or anyother will beat us... Does have to be a special event for low coastal westcountry snow though.

Has anyone seen matt around this year?

Not yet, he's probably putting his ark away. lol.

There are a few regulars who haven't appeared yet. I bet they will show up this time next week though!

Last year we had snow in Southampton, I know we are pretty much in land but still more then I expected. Heres hoping again, last year I went back to watford for a week the day I got back it snopwed heavily. It put about 6 inches down.

I'd love to say the Mendips but more often than not it's Dartmoor, then the Cotswolds, then the Mendips. An awful lot of the time snow around this area seems to stay above the M4 - I'm up for demolishing it if we can get a team together...

I totally agree ,it totally amazes me how the snow begins at the m4 when pushing north ,and turns to rain when heading south ,the clouds must have SAT Nav ,anyhow tonights charts looking juicy with a fair chance of an arctic plunge reaching further than the M4,but given how early it is in the season synoptics must be spot on for anything wintry .but anything is possible ,i,v had a quick look at some old charts and there as been very marginal events before ,and in my opinion the way things have been with many interesting weather events recently it would not surprise me if we see some of the white stuff but Height above sea level in our kneck of the woods is critical ,heres hoping .

I'm hoping for a great winter here in bournemouth.

Normally I wouldn't want to strike down someone's hopes but on this occasion... rofl.gif

Wassup folks? How're we all getting on in here? Weirdly looking forward to feeling a bit of a chill in the air this winter, though I'll probably get tired of it soon enough!

I don't think it will get as far down as us on the south coast. Well especially not our micro climate in bournemouth anyway lol.

You have got to have hope! Lol.

And it's got to happen one year! But I know we basically need a 62/63 or 47 scenario for us to get the winter I want and I don't think that will happen this year.

A dry and bright start with some shallow mist and fog lifting steadily. Still some high cloud to the SE from that persistent front there. Currently 7C. No wind.
