It seems like another of those events where it hangs about all day in the west then breaks up and crosses eastern parts relatively quickly.

At last the rain is beginning the ease off, a very dark late November day with what little daylight we've had fading fast now.

Looks like yet another year with snow in the final week of November/first week of December.

Current prognosis would be for the snow to arrive Friday.

The pattern at the end of next week being 'too far North' as described on MOD by some, yes that would be no good for the South East but could end up being a stonker for us, such a long way out and yes i know its far too early to speculate from an IMBY perspective but as we get into next week we will be able to start, a lot to overcome but we could actually only be about 9 or 10 days away from a pelting!!

Tight isobars there would denote the showers getting well inland.

As far as squal lines go here we've got off pretty lightly. It's raining steadily and it was pretty gusty to but nothing serious as previous squals. The west seems to have suffered the most. Looks like colder weather on the way late next week, early taste of winter perhaps.

Wind dropping now and cooling too.

There's been about 3mm of rain the past hour, not very heavy.

Yup.. what a big dud. That being said, I never expected anything more, rain from the west is useless, unless we get orographic uplifting.

I can't believe we're staring at another late November/early December cold spell, just 2 years after the last one..!

I also see many winter posters are waking up from hibernation now - a sure sign there is something cold brewing.

Some good charts appearing on the edge of reliability now. Certainly looks like it will be getting colder. As for snow prospects usual caveats apply for those of us in the West.

Genuinely can't see Thornaby on Tees getting a single snowflake from this upcoming cold spell heading our way next week blum.gif

However I can certainly see Alta getting his 'inches' and 'millimetres' mixed up as he often does when he drops his trousers rofl.gif

I think we're on to a good thing here!! Weeks of cold weather IMO, I wouldn't be surprised if if lasted till New Years! Just get that feeling that the set up of blocking we are seeing would last and dare I say it, make 09/10 look like a dusting!!!!!

Anyone with more experience of train travel than me? I need people to be travelling up to Durham from the S and the S/Wales on Friday/Sat next week. Of course, snow doesn't = automatic cancelling of trains, but in people's experience, do the trains generally manage to struggle through moderate snow showers/the conditions that we might have this time next week?

The majority of the time trains cope fine with snow.

The far bigger problem for them is any sub-zero temperatures which can freeze signals or even train parts themselves.
