In contrast to the above post it's -5 here with freezing fog and a hoar frost.

Went up into Dalby forest today to get the Christmas tree. Beautiful up there. -2C on car thermo at 12.30. Thick fog giving hoar frost and it looked cracking. Very wintry scenes.

Came back into Scarborough and no fog and 0C.

The fog has rolled in now though. Temp -1C and hoar frost now transforming the landscape around here. Hope to get out for some photo's in the morning.

I would be quite happy settling for a hoar frost if no snow is forecast. Looks proper grand it does! :)

The temperature is actually rising slightly here due to a bit of high level cloud. Up to 0.7c from 0.4c around an hour ago. No sign of any fog yet though.

It has been cloudy and above freezing all night here so far, with skies clearing only during the last hour. The temperature is falling now though, down from 0.4C an hour ago to -0.6C.

Yesterday night was much the same here as 4wd mentions, not particularly cold (min -1.2C) with a rather brisk westerly wind.

Was a lovely sunny start to the day here, after an overnight low of -3.9C. Fog now rolled up the hill so no more sun.

Well, quite interesting since the fog rolled in. Temps had recovered to above freezing in the sun, but now it's dropped back to -3.9C again (coincidentally) and everything's covered in a thin layer of what looks like tiny white ice pellets/crystals

Very wintry in the village today. Overnight low of -6.3c with thick fog all night leaving everything plastered in frost, just had a drive to York where there is rime frost but it's currently sunny. Back at home now and there's no sign of the fog lifting, still very dense and an impressive -2.9c for just gone midday. Most certainly going to be the 2nd ice day running. No beast from the east, but certainly something to keep me interested. (untill tomorrow sad.png )

Still -3.2C here, but I can see blue sky so the sun could be coming out soon, possibly ruining our chances of an ice day.

-3 here with nearby met office weather station reporting heavy snow. Perhaps that snowy/foggy stuff that caused 2cm of snow in parts of southern England.

Just back from a short walk round the village, what great weather !!! Everything rimed with hoar frost, shapes looming out of the mist, all sound deadened, the air with that coldness you can almost taste, fantastic ! Such a shame that by this time tomorrow it'll be +7C, blowing a gale and pouring with rain, and no real prospect of a return to today's weather for the foreseeable future sad.png

Yes, if we don't see snow at all, I'll take weather like this - stunning, simply stunning.

What a shame that we won't even get a snowy breakdown.

Indeed although the nmm goes for pool of colder air undercutting the front. Uppers around -1, PPN type shown as snow over central areas. Anywhere with elevation could see a mixture of rain, sleet and wet snow.

Current temp -4
