Easterly flow on Saturday - so frontal snow then heavy convective showers. Lovely! :)

The new weather warning put in place by the MO virtually covers the whole country for Friday....

Here is a random extract from it.biggrin.png

Winds will strengthen and blizzard conditions are a possibility, especially over high ground. Accumulations of more than 10 cm of snow are possible in many parts, with the potential for some severe disruption

Regarding Friday's possible event, then aslong the uppers are cold enough(as surface winds will be coming from the East so the North Sea) and PPN makes it across the Pennines then we could have something major on our hands here, would appear it may take until the afternoon before it reaches us but we have to wait and see on that one.

Some sort of easterly flow is still projected but we have to be a little careful regarding upper air temps though, they do start to mix out ever so slightly and even the GFS 2M temps have parts of the east coast at plus 1!

I just hope Friday won't be one of those raw cloudy days with PPN struggling to make across the Pennines because of the blocked nature of the set up.

Quality isn't it...blizzard like conditions, wow! Will this be upgraded to an Amber warning nearer to the time?

As the weather breaks down, an area of snow looks increasingly likely to spread from the southwest. Winds will strengthen and blizzard conditions are a possibility, especially over high ground. Accumulations of more than 10 cm of snow are possible in many parts, with the potential for some severe disruption, though currently there is a good deal of uncertainty about intensity of snow and how quickly it will turn to rain in the southwest. The public should be aware of the risk of significant travel disruption affecting the west in the morning and the east in the afternoon. This warning is likely to be updated over the next couple of days.

Wonder if they issue a Red warning by Friday for somewhere

Well its Midday now and temperature here is still only -1.0C, didn't reach as low as -7 last night, bottomed out here at around -4.8C.

Fridays set-up is trending towards a West-East flow in the front, meaning us in the East have a better chance of seeing more precipitation, with generally the west/Pennines seeing the most in the far north region.

If we can get 10/15cms then our depths may not be far off the W... I really hope some significant snow makes it this far - with those winds it would be a memorable event.

HOWEVER, in the main I am reminded how the BIG snowfalls are often in the W (even though they don't get them that often). I struggle to see how we could get as much here as is generated by a stalling front banging into mild air.

im sure that ppn out in the north sea is creeping closer to the coast line, also the ppn currently crossing the irish sea im sure wasnt meant to get that far

Pretty sure the NE will be included in the amber warning later today or tomorrow as it pushes further east !

Heavy snow is expected across much of the UK towards the end of the week.

Some areas could see up to 6in (15cm) of snow on Friday.

Every bbc forecast seems to push fridays snow a bit further east. Last one had its easterly line well into the north sea.

One thing for certain for us here the dew points are going to be low so its highly likely the snow will be dry when it falls and not wet like it was for a time on Sunday evening
