There are indications that the government may stage their Cobra alert and will put the army on standby if they are required help.gif

Haha a classic old style Yamkin ramp I love it! Get the army out! Tanks patrolling the streets!

Bizarre that they are cancelling trains in the SE for tomorrow morning, even before the real heavy snow's arrived!

Makes you think they know something we don't really, at the moment cancaling trains is an over reaction, considering we are expecting light to moderate stuff.

I used to work as a teacher -- similar thing there. Its almost institutionalised with some professions like that - its almost as if the managers enjoy the drama of unfolding, changing weather patterns!

Q:

I asked this on the model thread, but no replies and its troubling me again:

Why is it that all the mod charts are in foreign? They seem to be in either french or german,even the one thats called UKMO (UK met Office, no?)

so how come is that? Is it just coz we dont have UK websites that publish the data?

I think a lot of people post their charts from Meteociel.fr

The NMM barely even gets the snow to the West of our region

This is starting to sound quite scary at times now.

Only a precaution at this stage

Can anyone clarify why the BBC are saying we are going to get light snow throughout the whole of saturday? To me there's nothing to back that up.

Cobra? Why, the Met Office only have an amber warning.

London isn't the only area in the UK, probably for Wales or parts of the West.

Dont worry, in the land of Yammers, every inch is a foot -- every shower is a blizzard!

And that is what's coming our way biggrin.pngcold.gifclap.gifhelp.gif

Posted this earlier. Can anyone confirm if correct:

Correlation between temps and DP.

As a rule of thumb:

Add together the Dew point and the temperature = A

then if:

A > 7 prob. snow is very small

A=7 prob. snow = 10%

A=6 20%

A=5 30%

A=4 40%

A=3 50%

A=2 60%

A=1 70%

A=0 80% or more

COBR - really shouldn't be an A on the end :p

Can also confirm that it sounds likely that there will be a COBR meeting tomorrow. Having the Army on standby is a common thing if a COBR meeting is called for such an event like this, would be kind of pointless to call the meeting and not put contingency plans into use otherwise!

MetO also have a Red Alert out which could be extended.

Cobra is there as a precaution at this stage anyway.

COBR (Cabinet Office Briefing Rooms) are held for all manner of things. Even the Ash Die-Back disease on trees received a few COBR meetings, though obviously the attendees of the meeting for this sig snow event will find this vastly more interesting and challenging!

It's COBR not COBRA!

I presume that trough will keep the precipitation active until the trough dies out?

Why would we even need the army if the snow got really bad? Are they going to clear up the snow for us?

I'm pretty sure the Army have vechiles that can get across inaccesible land ect to bring supplies ect. Not saying this is going to happen but if worse came to worse and we had a meter of snow and blizzards this would, I imagine be the goverments final throw of the dice.
