Easing off here. I have a feeling the next band will arrive as rain in an hour, judging by the reports in the NW thread.

No cover here at all, had very light snow here for hours and now its got heavy its a rain/snow mix. Sums up the winter so far for here a bit of a letdown.

Anyone know what conditions are like up Consett/Stanley way? Our lass is due to travel down to Ferryhill tonight for a romantic, candle-lit meal and it might be a bit dodgy for her.

I've just drove back to Consett from Chester-Le-Street and the roads were ok, bit dodgy in exposed places but generally ok.

Moderate driving snow. Hard to tell how much - seems to be 4-5cm level, where the wind hasn't got to. Drifts of up to a foot in some places.

Dad reports a 'good covering' at Blyth, they were disappointed when I said it will be all gone in the morning, as they were hoping to build a snowman with my nephew!

DBC have let them selves down at the final hurdle today by not getting the gritters out early

Temperature up to +0.5 C now, this lot will melt fairly rapidly with the heavy rain!

The snow is on its final legs now for Darlo we should then see a lull in the weather for a few hours before rain spreads in from the west which will herald the change from cold to mild

Managed a 8 hour snowfall but it was mostly light still we ended up with 3 inches. Its now raining and a rapid thaw is taking place. It has ended up a Good event, the second highest single fall of the winter so far. Pity it will all be home overnighr.

Very windy here, with light drizzle but temperatures are still below freezing so ice

on all surfaces that haven't got snow.

Pretty good snow day here today and nice to see some drifting of the snow which has

been lacking in recent winters.

8/9 hours of falling snow you cant grumble 2/3 inchs. 8 miles down the road my mate said they avnt got any. 1 disapointing factor is the state of the roads no gritting being done gridlock. Its talking people over an hour to get put of darlo,

Yes its ridiculous it took me 40 minutes to get from Albert hill to Neasham road, were the council expecting another non event? or was it heavier than forecast? either way the gritters should have been out from 10am and this mess would not have happened. Its a shame as they've done well all winter as well

Cars were getting stuck up the bank by Sainburys as well took 10 store staff, the police and members of the public to shift every one

Despite the snow starting at 10am the council only sent gritters out at 14:50!

Temperatures still below freezing in the higher parts of the region at the moment,so that

precip that is approaching from the west could well be freezing rain.excl.png

Everything is covered in a layer of ice here after the freezing rain, I hope it all melts by the morning or the snow could be a right pain in the behind!
