Collard Doves doing the same in our garden chasing everything out, started building their nest two cold spells ago now, hope that didn't lay any eggs before the cold this week. Lots of frogs and newts around last weekend, hopefully they went to the bottom of the pond before it got cold. Those ring-necked parakeets are very nice and colourful but boy are they noisy, don't have many down this way but where my sister lives in Bexley it's all you ever hear.smile.png

Hmmm, that reminds me, maybe frogspawn watch can get started soon. Wonder if this cold weather is going to make the frogspawn later this year; always haunt the local ponds looking out for the brand new baby frogs in Spring and Summer.

Better than here, classic spring/summer effects here. Inland showers coastal areas sunny. Not a cloud out to sea here.

This radar is now exploding with light showers, fingers crossed they get heavier and stay as wide spread as they look, today might supprise.

Yep, they are rife here in Bexley. Never forgot the first time I saw them - I thought they were a flock of parrots (anything is possible here!)

Yellow Warning of Snow for East of England :

Norfolk & Suffolk

Snow showers will continue to affect parts of northern and eastern Scotland and eastern coastal areas of England on Wednesday night and into Thursday morning. Localised accumulations of snow become more likely as temperatures fall on Wednesday evening, with 1-2cm possible in places at low-level, and perhaps 2-5cm on some higher ground. Icy stretches may also develop on some roads and pavements.

Issued at:

1130 on Wed 13 Mar 2013

Valid from:

1800 on Wed 13 Mar 2013

Valid to:

0900 on Thu 14 Mar 2013

Cold northerly winds will continue to feed wintry showers in across windward coasts during the rest of Wednesday and into early Thursday. Snow accumulations by day should be slight and very temporary, though falling temperatures overnight mean that icy patches and some accumulations of a few cm are possible. Many of the showers across Scotland will clear soon after midnight, though the risk of residual icy patches remains into Thursday morning.

Nice link about them here, they have probably felt at home the last few days as they originate from the foothills of the Himalayas!

Well the METO suggest those possibilities for more fun next weeksmile.png

UK Outlook for Monday 18 Mar 2013 to Wednesday 27 Mar 2013:

Unsettled conditions look set to continue with it becoming cold or even very cold for March. Outbreaks of rain, sleet and snow in most places, although turning more showery at times allowing spells of brightness, especially in the west. Sleet and snow is most likely in the north and east, with the risk of some significant accumulations here. Later in the week, rain and strong winds may spread north, bringing less cold conditions in the south but perhaps more snow in the north. Overall, temperatures will remain well below average; the nights cold and frosty with icy patches. Over northern Britain it will sometimes be windy, accentuating the cold. Conditions are expected to remain rather cold and unsettled into the following week with a continuing risk of snow in places.

Whatever happens it look like a well below average March temperature wise is increasingly likely

Looking at the radar, nearly all the showers that are running down the coastline from the north sea, just fade away as soon as they hit the north norfolk coast.

At this point, the showers dont look like they are going to penetrate inland.

brief snow shower here - looking at the clouds, they look quite convective (is that the word?!) - almost could produce a heavy burst with a rumble or two of thunder?

There are loads of them here, have been since the early 90s and numbers seem to be increasing. Pretty birds but the noise they make is not so pretty lol.

If you take account when that BBC link was written (6 yrs ago...scary!ohmy.png ) and the estimations for increase in their numbers as they adapt and colonise more and more then they should become a very welcome, pretty, and increasingly familiar sight in further years to comesmile.png Yet we hear how other species of birds, some of which are our own native species, have conversely declined over the yearssmile.png
