Weston Uphill Slipway beach fails water quality standard

The Marine Conservation Society (MCS) study found agricultural waste had been washed into Uphill Slipway beach from the River Axe. The organisation said farmers must do more to prevent sewage overflowing into streams and rivers from their land. The National Farmers' Union (NFU) in the South West said work was already under way to tackle the issue.

Pollution can be washed into the sea from agricultural run-off, poor plumbing and septic tanks. Rachel Wyatt, of the MCS, said farmers must "look at land management practices, put up more fences to keep cattle out of rivers and change patterns of manure spreading". Paul Cottington, of the NFU in the South West, said farmers had begun working on the issue with Natural England and the Environment Agency. He said: "That will all help future-proof us for these kind of exceptional weather events."

The main beach in Weston-super-Mare received a pass in the MCS Good Beach Guide study, which focuses entirely on water quality standards and the risk of sewage pollution. Wessex Water has spent £26m improving sewage treatment in the area

It is snowing here, dry snow just like mid winter.

Yes, a little light snow falling here too from a yellow tinged sky after some very welcome morning sunshine. dirol.gif

Temperature +3c with a light breeze and still some snow on rooftops up the hill out of town.

Sunshine briefly reappeared as snow falling ... rainbow/snowbow possible?!! nea.gif

Quite apart from the odd dandruffy flurries, the most important aspect today is the brightness for the first time in a week! I had to do

a double take when leaving home at 07.00 with clear blue sky and sunshine to enjoy lol !

Persistent light to moderate fluffy snow here for the last hour or so. Not even wetting the ground or cars though as the air is so dry. Breezy with it.

Light snow here. So many days like today, of falling snow this month but nothing more than flurries.

Well the sun disappeared quite rapidly and we defaulted back to grey cloudy nothingness. No wintery precipitation here and the air is very dry with humidity being only 50%. I have found today far more comfortable to be outside, in comparison with previous days now the wind has eased.

I just got back from a drive to Truro, and very very light snow grains in the air, can't see it leading to 6 feet snow drifts though :(

At least there is some nice sunshine between the flurry bursts here.

Nice to see some brightness after what seems an eternal cloudcover.
