It's been a mixture of graupel, wet snow and fine snow since before 6; barely any has settled, though.

It's changed really quickly here. After about 2 hours of sleet it changed to heavy snow. Settling on everything. Quite a surprise.

Storm Forecast

Valid: Sat 23 Mar 2013 06:00 to Sun 24 Mar 2013 06:00 UTC

Issued: Sat 23 Mar 2013 00:05

Forecaster: PISTOTNIK

No threat levels were issued.

SYNOPSIS

Behind a deepening trough over Eastern Europe, again very cold and dry air pushes South and West over large parts of Europe. Finally the resistance of a decaying Atlantic low results in a "delta" pattern with a sharp and stationary frontal boundary from the British Isles via Eastern France and the Alpine region to the Balkans. On the other side, the continental cold air gets attacked but not seriously endangered by the warm air advection shield of a powerful cyclogenesis near the tip of the Eastern European trough, which is coating the Eastern Ukraine and adjacent Russia.

While snow and freezing rain pose a hazard outside of the ESTOFEX forecasting scheme for these mentioned regions along the fringes of the enormous cold air body, the chances for thunderstorms are pushed back to Southwestern Europe, the last bastion of a seasonably mild air mass beneath rather low 500 hPa geopotential heights.

I think it might just be hail at best

Slushy mess of ice which is melting with a bit of icing sugar on it, could do with some heavier stuff before it all melts and nothing will settle on it. mind you 5 miles to our East radar is showing sleet so it is still marginal

Snow has stopped here. With a light dusting and falling temperatures, I really hope it starts up again soon as would be nice to get 5cm or so.

Morning all,

Well it was snowing when I went to bed but not settling on the wet surfaces, sometime between me going to sleep and waking up again (I'm guessing about 3am) it started to stick....all surfaces are covered now and it's coming down thick and fast (teeny tiny flakes but zillions of them)

Temperature 0.3 °C

Dew Point -0.4 °C
