Hi AITS, the Old Wive's tale to which you refer is actually this:

'When Autumn time is full of spiders

You will need your windscreen wipers"

Yep, that's what I meant to type! Nearly got it right!

LOL Lee - let's hope so!

No more, I promise! Got today's idiocy out of my system now!

My god that's crap!Posted Image

And the sad thing is that was the best I could come up with. So I'll leave to your imagination how truly dire the others were!

Thinking about coming out of my summer hibernation period, I'm getting that autum feeling Posted Image

Well hello Shotski, nice to see you back and with that autumn feeling too - there are lots of nuts around at the moment which the squirrels seem to be gathering up so I hope you don't go AWOL Posted Image

I certainly have that Friday feeling.....

Afternoon all

Well the sun has tried a few times today to make an appearance, some better than others.  We have climbed above 18oC too, so not too shabby a day in all as it has stayed dry if a little more breezy though.

Just found out today the new Marvel-Avengers-S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series starts tonight on CH4 Posted Image  and there is the special I.T. Crowd episode to watch too Posted Image

and not forgetting Sir David Attenborough is on too (the PVR will get a work out tonight)

Not unreasonable here either and definitely a plus for the end of September. I think we've still got some warmth (above seasonal norms) to come in the next week which is encouraging:

Still not bad at 18/19 in places up to next weekend:

Right, lots to do this weekend including some or more partying, drinking, eating and chilli'

Have a good one peeps!

Afternoon from Croydon,Pleasant and warm here. Some excitement possible for the Brontophiles in the extreme SW/S of our region, starting tomorrow morning for around 24 hours or so. Showers possibly thundery, flirting with the Sussex and Kent coast at times but shouldnt amount to much. I've not called for a COBRA meeting for Brontophobes, just yet.Hope you all enjoy your POETS day.I'll just have to be content with my 9.30 finish this evening and same again tomorrow but please dont feel guilty! Lol.Tom.

Tom, that reminds me, and without wishing to rub it in about your 9:30 finish, I have got 3 bottles of the stuff in the fridge to go with tonight's Indian! Hope all's well with the house by now?

Hi AS,

Everything's fine with the house now thanks. Hope all's well with you and yours.

No hardship to work until 9.30, love the job, only 2 of us working tonight and my colleague is a really nice laid-back guy and we'll probably be discussing the merits of various rock/blues guitarists, in between taking phone calls. Hardly taxing!

Tom.

Quite a stunning sunset here a few minutes ago. It's a pity that where I live is no good for pics. Posted Image

I'm at that awkward clothing phase where you can't quite get it right and you go from shivering to sweating your bits off in the space of 10 minutes. Those are the joys of Autumn weather.

hi all

heres the fax charts and this is tricky

Posted Image

tomorrow

a breezy south easterly

temps

Posted Image

around 18 north of london

20 south of london

rainfall is the tricky bit

the trough on the fax showing to our south west is an annoying so and so

ukmo show this

Posted Image

Posted Image

as you can see it shows light precipitation to the far south east

and a tad heavier to the far south

i feel that most areas should stay dry with sunny spells except the far south and far west of the region

even the areas effected should not be too wet

Posted Image

sunday

again a breezy and fairly noticeable south east flow

temps

Posted Image

somewhere around 16-18 degrees

expect cloudy conditions and fog especially tod area and also the far south of the region

rainfall

Posted Image

again looks mainly dry

however the very far south may pick up the odd shower due to the low to our south

still not looking too bad

Posted Image

monday

a gusty south east flow

temps

Posted Image

somewhere around 18 degrees

looks dry but there may be a shower or 2 to the far west of the region

looks like fog will not be an issue with this set up

Evening all. Has been partly cloudy today, but always bright 😃. The wind has picked up a bit now, and even by my standards it feels a tad chilly (but, by no means central heating chilly). Our charity lunchtime walk over the local nature park went brilliant, and we managed to raise £180 for the teenage cance trust. On top of that, we saw some great sights of nature. Blue dragon flies, wild ponies, a weasel and a few birds which I can't remember the names of, but was very enjoyable to watch.

Thanks for the update JP, and enjoy your Cobra's Coast. Mine are chilling ready for me tomorrow ðŸ»

http://themoscownews.com/local/20130925/191943689/First-snowfall-hits-Moscow.html

this story reminds me of the winters we used to get a few years ago

love this bit

“The snow was falling for five-seven minutes, it started at about 3:07 p.m.,†a resident who lives close to the Yugо-Zapadnaya subway station, the southernmost stop on the Red line, told RIA Novosti. “Now the sun is out again.â€

tuesday

a south-south easterly flow and quite blowy

temps

Posted Image

18-20 degrees and maybe a degree or 2 higher where the sun stays out

Posted Image

some showers around after lunch and possibly heavy for a time

wednesday to follow

wednesday

Posted Image

a gusty southerly flow

due to warmer air source i would say temps around 20-22 degrees and feeling humid

note the fronts close to us

now rainfall

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

at present ecm and the fax look to match

so if correct i reckon we could see some thunderstorms and heavy rain with this set up

as always keep watching to see if it changes as it gets closer

I hope so John. I know that somewhere in the UK will hit 21C (70F) in roughly 2 out of 3 years on average, in October, so I always look for the last shot of warmth now.

In fact I'd be really happy if proper cold weather was reserved for December, January and February only (okay maybe late November and very early March too) but I didn't like the dragging cold in the last Spring at all on balance, mostly due to high power bills. I'm also confident that I cope with cold better than 95% of the general population, including most of the cold weather types, who post on the Model Discussion Thread. Posted Image

a good storm would be nice

looking at these

Posted Image

look at the 10th on

note the cold ensembles runs starting to show

thats when i feel the cooler conditions will start to come into play and then gradually get colder

also thats when the first frosts may come into play overnight

time will tell though

anyway better go bed now

I should clarify my post above. :)

I've no problem with people who like cold weather. It's more the types who moan in Summer about any sort of heat and say they wish it was Winter. If we had twelve months of January type weather, they'd soon be whining, especially if our power systems couldn't cope and they ended up with no cosy central heating...

Morning regionaires.

Bright to the East, darker to the West but not bad overhead in Eastbourne this morning. Posted Image

How about a bit of a semi-serious prediction for the colder season then? No prizes, just the kudos of being closest:

What date will the first visible snow fall to the ground and give at least a light dusting in our region and where do you think that will be?

Answer in this regional thread so we can look back and check when it happens!

  • April 2024 - Was it that cold overall? A look at the statistics

General perception from many is that April was a cold month, but statistics would suggest otherwise, with the average temperature for the whole month coming in just above the 30 year average for the UK as a whole. A warm first half to to the month averaged out the cold second half. View the full blog here
