GUSTS OF ABOVE 80MPH MIGHT BE POSSIBLE INLAND

says Skywarn UK. Posted Image http://www.skywarn.org.uk/current.html

Yes, ties in with a post from Nick F in the main thread which suggested that very high gust speeds are possible along the squall line created by the cold front passing through. Edited by Chalk Serpent

all i can say is

i am glad i do not work at the met office

this storm is very complicated

we have a very low low

jet stream in the mix

and potential for heavy rain and flooding

all related to how tight the isobars get for us

i am waiting for the fax chart to update for 6pm tomorrow

would normally be there by now but will post when available

It's has a bit of technical truth, the storm is forecast to have a central pressure of around 930mb, which is only slightly higher than the 928mb recorded back in 1881 I believe, but of course the isobars are only squeezed as tight as the st Judes storm b the looks of it, though the affected area by strong winds is much wider and a longer timeframe of which damaging gusts can occur. It's bad but no October 1987 or Burns night storm.

Agreed, it certainly is anticipated to be a deep low, for the more experience of you on here (which is probably 99% compared to me) is it now pretty much nailed on in relation to the expected track of the incoming system and the central pressure or do we think it still has the time time/ability to spring a surprise or two (all be it good or bad?)

Hi there SE gang,

Hope all are well and ready for Xmas. Been so busy on my blogs with so much happening across the globe. Croydon Council have been very busy over the weekend with the emergency preparedness plans just like other councils across the UK regarding the oncoming storms.

Happy Xmas everyone and please take good care out there especially during the severe storms.
