It's quite fun to watch the Star gradually mutate into the Express for people with an even lower reading age... They've had quite quite a few weather stories with quotes from 'scientists' recently and following the Express approach of chuck in a quote from the Met Office that's quite measured, then switch and bait with some nutter from his shed talking about apocalyptic snow or deadly heat waves. Cheap way to get 'news' I suppose...

Sums it up beautifully.

ecm looks an outlier in the dry sense

I just hope we get some good old thunder storms like we used to in the 80s and 90s this summer. Ones that go on all night and into the next morning would be good......please. :D

There's nothing new about sink holes or dene holes apart from the fact it's something else for the papers to scare people with, they appear on a regular basis in this area and always will, back in the late 1960's a woman disappeared down one in Wainscott near Strood and was never found.

Hi bjay, After I asked questions here about how such things occur and people offering links to discussions, I have been finding time try and educate myself a little on this subject, the geology is quite fascinating, albeit disturbing, like JP suggests, the building on unsuitable land.  Been looking at environment agency geology maps and aquifer info for my area.  Don't know if the local W.I. would be ready for such a slideshow though!

EDIT: apols Iceni!

Hardly, just grew up with a mother that liked knitting, as for Bruce, if I ever get a goldfish again that will be his name. (last one was Scampi)

Not reached this corner yet, looking at radar it keeps trying to move this way but disintegrating as it does so. I expect it will make it over soon though.

Daily mail saying MO forecaster predicted that next week we will have more jet stream storms...

Given that all our Atlantic lows are related to the jet stream, no **** Sherlock. (That's aimed at the Daily Mail, not you...)

Have  the Daily Express asked your cockatiel for a weather quote, for one of their  articles?

And in 1483 Henry Tudor was forced to abandon his invasion to take Richard III's crown. His army landed in Pembroke and got as far as the Welsh Marches, but was stopped in his tracks by flooding in the Severn/Gloucester area. Nothing new.

Btw - the late 15thC was around about the time of the start of the Little Ice Age which lasted another 300 years. Hope this isn't another one.

Nice one mon fils.  I am glad that there is another calm soul who will read the facts rather than shake his hands.  Global Warming is a myth.

Can I be the first to say I'm bored with sink holes?

I really am.

I agree, sink holes are this weeks polar vortex as far as the media are concerned. Lazy journalism at it's worst.

Oh by the way, several hours of moderate rainfall here in north west London last night. Posted Image

AS Britain's worst winter in decades is almost over, scientists are predicting this year's summer could be the BEST ever.

The simple answer surely is to completely ignore them, and deny them the publicity they crave ??  We have some very knowledgeable folk here who post regularly and know their stuff.

Morning all, hope everybody's well. Looks like a bit of rain in the night, but looks a nice morning with a clear blue sky, here in dirty Dartford. The ongoing 'ole saga, is that the 'ole through to Australia has been nearly filled in, but the dodgy pavement still remains, so its care time when walking through the gate, all the signs and safety fencing has been found and re-erected, so hopefully the work should be completed today.

Off to 'orible 'Arlow today to the office, guess what, more meetings, wonder when I am actually going to do some proper work, never mind got a nice drive into the heart of Kent tomorrow, which I must admit to enjoying.

Hope you all have a great productive day, as I said I won't, but that don't stop you enjoying your selfs.
