Well the OPI will certainly be tested this Winter Sundog.

Personally, I am happy with the way the models are looking at present, particularly in the upper atmosphere. The coldest and snowiest of winters are often preceded by very wet Novembers. This for me is due to low pressures systeme stalling in the Eastern Atlantic as they are impacted by the relatively higher pressure to the North.

Eventually the wave lengths will change to give our cold.

And in the much shorter term, a substantial rainfall event for the SE/E coasts tomorrow by the looks of things...

Massive squall just now in my location, not near my weather station, but that was impressive with roof tops cascading water way too much for guttering on all the houses! Could be in for some impressive totals if this persists!

Look at those rainfall totals, if this keeps going like last winter we have a month and a half jump start with rain then I am buying a speed boat to get to work every day :wallbash: post-17445-0-89050200-1415879778_thumb.g

Below is the % of average annual rain that has fallen so far this year, compared to the 1981-2010 average, based on the monthly data from Met Eireann here http://www.met.ie/climate/monthly-data.asp

7Zr2dXn.jpg

So far, out of 25 stations, 6 have passed their average annual totals with 7 weeks still remaining, while another 10 are within 10%. This isn't including today's rainfall!

Bright Green = 110-120%

Dark Green = 100-110%

Dark Blue = 90-100%

Light Blue = 80-90%

Grey = No Data Reported for November

The Northwest seems like the only place that might end up below average.

And a brief respite from the deluge, skies brightening... But not for long!

Hows it going guys. A miserable day out tonight. After a model wobble over the past few days things are starting to look good again if the 12z is anything to go by.
