Just looked outside as something is falling- and its very wet snow, on the verge of being sleet. Dont say this thing is pulling down warmer upperd or something, that snow we had earlier was of the dry powdery kind.

It is mate. Milder 850's are mixed in with this system.

The following new warning has been published by the Met office from 1030pm this evening

a small area of low pressure is expected to move southeastwards and bring a more persistent spell of rain, sleet and snow to parts of western Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales and the Midlands. This likely to lead to further accumulations of snow, especially on high ground, whilst also increasing the risk of ice. The track of this system is a little uncertain at present and this warning may be adjusted as and when necessary.

This is good news for us....

Earlier on (18:30)  the BBC (and MO) were not sure the Midlands was going to get anything at all. (They were advocating the fizzle scenario for us).

It now appears to be the first stage of  a change in their forecast. They admit they still don't know what will happen, so how on earth can people on here already claim to know what is going to happen.

It is one of the biggest 'forecast now' scenarios of all time.

Heavy snow or rain can occur anywhere or anytime over the next few hours in the Midlands.

Not exclusively, it was always going to be a mix...hence the MO warnings this morning mentioning 'rain, sleet and snow' and accumulations of 1 to 2cm. This kind of PPN would produce more if it was going to be all snow. I've spent the entire afternoon warning people...if it was going to be a case of it just being pure snow then I'd have got in on all the excitement with you lot, however - marginal and so on has lead to dissapointment so far this winter...tonight to be no different.

Hope they don't turn off the street lights again at midnight...could really ruin any snow watching as it did last night... :diablo:

A return to mild is looking unlikely for a long time from latest 18z GEFS ensembles.

Just the odd spot of (I think) rain here. We're just a fraction too far south for anything more from this blob. Eyes down for the band now coming into Shropshire, I guess.
