Bbc northwest weather saying its going to be the coldest spell for 2 years

That forecast to me says even the coast can see falling snow. I think we have our best chance from Sunday as winds veer more northerly so less modification from the Irish see and more chance of lying snow if more oranised bands of snow move south

From what I've seen tonight in the models, this cold spell could be one of those that slowly but surely gets better and better and upgrades as we go along (in snow terms). Already esp from the ECM things look like prolonging. Nothing to be dispondant about tonight from me!

Even though the wind direction favours the region it just magically passes large parts by and just hits the East!!!

Yes this is our best chance of the winter, over the next week at some point.

Leyland - rain. Chorley sleet, Rawtenstall - snow. That's what 300m asl gets you.

That's snow accumulations. So it's saying we got rain.

Metoffice app has practically removed all wintryness of showers here, with temps not particularly cold at 4 or 5c

It's been downgrading for our area as the days been going nearly all the sleet has vanished of the forecast. Rain all the way in my view.

Yes I am right on the border between snow and no snow, experience tells me I will se settling snow but the difference between me and people just a mile or so away will be that mine turns back to rain or sleet on Thursday after around 3-6cm but some right near me will get 15cm level with 3 and 4 foot drifts in places, at least I don't have to go very far to see it though!!!!

Our chances are totally based on the upper levels and DP's being low enough. Fingers crossed they will be.

Winter hill job on Sunday I think.

Thing is I love seeing snow fall. Best chances 3am-7am. I'll be fast asleep!

The showery flow is still over 250 miles away and people are writing the whole event off. Just wait and see what happens! Is the weather not allowed to provide surprises or has it all got to be forecast within a millimetre of accuracy? Anywhere in the region has a chance of seeing snow over, at least, the next 6 days. Beyond that is guesswork. Be patient and see what happens - you can't really get much worse than a 200 square mile lump of rock in the middle of the north Irish Sea when asking for snow but even here I have had fantastic surprises...

Can people stop hanging on these ruddy weather apps. IMO, they are garbage.

That's also goes for those local Met Office forecasts with those symbols. I think they are bit of a farce, IMO.

The one i use is the met office app on the i phone and it's usually pretty accurate on temps and precip type.

EURO4 accumulations indicative of marginal nature of event.

Low lying accumulations look very unlikely at this stage.
