Even the Five-Live forecaster mentioned the possibility of 35C, on Wednesday; LBC went one better with 36!

On the subject of undercooking, could all the models have been misled by the cool Atlantic SSTs?

I'd say there is a good chance of 35c being hit on Wednesday, potentially a record-breaker for Wimbledon.

The ECM never really shows the warmth disappearing, not as hot as this week but certainly a prolonged summery spell.

25c predicted for london though if the high cloud lifts it could get a bit higher

Weirdly i went out in Armley and it felt a bit oppressive but when i arrived in Bradford there was noticeably more wind and a cooler temperature. An interesting quirk.

Or it could just be getting off the bus that made me feel different.

There are few worse places to be in a heatwave than on a bus!

Here's a list from TORRO on the top 100 hottest days ever recorded in the UK. Unfortunately, it only shows the highest temp recorded in a day, and ignores the 2nd, 3rd, ect which may still be higher than others on the list.

(Apologies, it's not very easy on the eye. I can't get the formatting right to get it in a table)

With charts like these, I'm tempted to think somewhere in the top 50.

nmmuktempnew.png

There again, I'm not quite sure if the chart is 2m temperatures or surface temperatures. If they're 2m temperatures then I think it might suggest something a little more notable than some people think!

Early August is the King of warm, going off that. Although I'm pretty sure that 36.5C temp was actually July 2006, not August.

I also didn't realise it got so warm in January 1900...

The problem is with the torro site, is that it's not been updated for years. The October record of 29.9c set a few years back is nowhere to be seen. Does anyone know of a similar site which is updated regularly?

I always find the weather online maximums to be highly accurate in summer - for instance, they got the 27C correct for last Friday when the Met forecasted 22C. Well, currently they show 36C for Gravesend tomorrow:

Not far off the July record

The 10am forecast on News 24 was pushing for the chance of 35C in the SE tomorrow, depending on how clear the sky is (and 40C around the Paris area!)

Judging by how rapidly the temperatures are rising today compared to forecast, I wouldn't rule out the July record being under threat. I think we'll see a few 30s today.

Indeed, I was quite surprised to see a 35C on the map.

He also used the words 35C or so - Maybe a little hotter than that if there is little cloud cover?

Maybe the July record isn't as safe as we thought!

It's certainly going to be an interesting one to watch!

I have not actually experienced 35C before.. though I may not quite be in the very hottest area I'm not quite sure how I will deal with it being in a top floor room that can get warm even in normal weather.

25,8 here. Horridly warm at the moment. Already hoping for some cooler air to return as soon as possible. :)
