Reminding me of July 17th this is. Hi-res models have failed to predict the eastward shift on this. Looks like the band is feeding off the juice to the East as it is tapping into it. Another storm going wild over Chartres, just west of Paris. Looking good for those in the IOW area towards Sussex now! Hampshire + Wiltshire and parts of Somerset should do well also :)

Yes looking again at hi-res that is a bit of a shift east... if that happens again tomorrow in a similar way the main focus will move from S Wales/N Devon & W country to C/S England regions instead.

Shows why not to follow the models too much at such close range. Now-cast all the way.

This is the UKMO rainfall graphic for 19:00 on Friday

Looking very good for the midlands and chances not ruled out for anyone further North as this precip moves North during the night and into Saturday

Don't feel confident we'll get much here tonight, so off to bed now. Then I'll be fresh for tomorrow's action!

Happy to say that the dire warnings from Meteo France didn't meet the reality here. After going into my headless chicken routine with lots of pacing around, obsessively checking the updated radar and wondering what carnage I'd have to deal with, the sum total was 15 minutes of torrential rain.

Their original warning mentioned gusts of wind exceeding 100 km/h, hailstones and some ridiculous amounts of rain over a short period of time.

Thunderstorms are however expected over the weekend so I'll likely need to sedate myself to cope.

Very interesting! Could be some rather severe weather IF we can get some decent sunny spells and not too much 'crud' hanging around for too long...

Some lovely lightning though, and impressive clouds. It' not over yet either. We are not Kansas over here you know, but we do know how to do a storm. Be careful what you wish for...
