Incredible rain here just now! Drains blocked in the yard and is filled with around a foot of water, just watched a large plank of wood get swept across in the flow! Now the rain has past an increase in t+L activity with some real bright flashes and deep booming thunder :)

Hmm, still raining but T&L activity appears to have weakened. EDIT: Ooh no, just heard a rumble.

What are people so annoyed about exactly? There are thunderstorms around. Yes, they may not be as widespread as they were forecasted to be at this time, but who knows, the plume may just be delayed. We have been here many times before.

Give it time...

It appears that there is a heavier bit around guildford that seems to be giving off sparks.

What was a spell of torrential rain to the South of London has weakened too on the arrival in London!

As 'thundery Lows' go this is pretty far from a 1980s classic!

What incredible weather on the Sussex coast.  Thunder and lightning almost continuously since 3am this morning (yes it's still going right now) with just a brief break between say 6am and 7.30am.  Huge rainfall totals without a doubt.  I suspect we're approaching (or possibly even exceeding) 75mm in a 12-hour period.  Rain is persistent and heavy, often utterly torrential.  Surface water flooding is almost a certainty in places - indeed latest travel news confirms numerous instances of flooded roads, many of them major A-roads.

It now looks like a quiet period later, before further storms later this afternoon and then possibly again tomorrow.

people should bear in mind that some on this thread and on the model thread did cast a little doubt on how widespread the thunder would be but saying that they would be some and the met office has covered itself but emphasising the complexity of the situation and even Nick F couldn't nail it down exactly as early as this morning so I think a little slack should be granted

I'm not annoyed. Never expect anything stormy here, usually that's the result, not even disappointed, although it means i will have to move off the sofa and the water my bubs plants in the garden, her sunflower is getting big.

getting dark here again.

Wow with all the people saying they are only having rain in their area while here where I live its like I'm in a different country with the continuous thunder and lighting appearing everywhere

But don't worry, if you miss the storms I have recorded 15mins of the thunderous cell and I'm uploading it to youtube right now

Nick F's latest forecast is bang on the money so far.

I take my hat off to the bloke, he is normally very accurate, given how hard it is to forecast thunderstorms. BBC lately have acknowledged this on several occasions too.

To edit my earlier post recorded an intensity of 142.8mm/hr at 11.26 this morning. Rain seems to be easing off now which is good because there is alot of surface water on all the roads around here.
