The meto maps and warnings are not compatible with precipitation charts being shown by the BBC - all rather confusing. Cumbria is under the warning yet the map doesn't include any of the county apart from Pennine fringes yet the front is shown to bring snow to central parts of the county with the front moving through - how can it skip here yet deliver snow to southern parts of the region, it doesn't make sense..

Local microclimates caused by the fells tend to produce sudden developments here, and surprise snowfalls that the pros often fail to predict.. I'm keeping an open mind and won't be surprised either way to see no snow or a covering..

Its good to be talking about snow prospects on the back of a very lengthy exceptionally mild spell..

I guess if there is one good thing if any PPN is further West and looking at the kink in the isobars, its unlikely there will be any modification from the Irish sea as winds will be coming off shore, the question will be, how much of a mild sector will there be... It does appear, the further West you are, the colder the air will be.

Got to say, looking at the set up now compared to what it was, its rather underwhelming and it has been shortened in duration, as I said last night, its the same old problem of not being able to sustain a ridge/heights in Greenland despite the PV being knocked out.

Goes to show, even though the overall trend might be there, details will change right up to the last moment, something to bear in mind for the winter months and that goes with any set up really, the fact cold set ups get more attention leads to the false suggestion that its only cold that downgrades but its not the case at all.

Might just see a few falling flakes in the air if the band of snow/sleet/rain makes it this far inland, but can't see it posing too many problems even for areas in the sweet spot. Saturday will feel like a proper wintry day...Should blow away the mild autumn cobwebs.

Interesting.. a shift further west on the latest charts... the only problem is it's most likely to happen during the witching hour for most, and we could be dreaming through it...

Temps have fallen back a bit from earlier, now 6.9c but feels colder in the wind, had some rain showers as well. Surprised at the reports of sleet further south given temps are still generally 8-9c, the colder air & lower dew points haven't even moved over this far north yet.

Conveyor belt of showers lining up to pepper the North West throughout the rest of today (hope we have this setup when temps are cold enough to produce snow, because we'd get copious amounts of the stuff).  Had some quite heavy showers so far already with sleet mixed in.

Dew temps are lowering now in Northern Ireland with most stations reporting 0 or below dew points so the colder air is filtering in and dew temps around this region should start dropping soon also.

Unfortunately, the more organised does have a mild sector in but as long as winds are off shore(winds are forecast to veer more Northerly) then for some areas, snowfall is a real possibility.

As per ever, its radar watching and not get too drawn up with those BBC graphics!

yes I was out in that. Took my radio in case of any sferics. Dropped the temperature nicely as well from 8.2 to 6.9°C

Let's see what happens tonight.
