Yeah, the cold air is starting to dig down now. Don't think it'll get much further south than it is now though. If it's still raining at 1pm, then I'[m afraid that's all you're likely to get.

Some snow is now falling in the very highest areas but lower down just a sleety mixture and here it's just cold rain.  Ice could be more of a problem for northern areas tonight as temps fall away.

Sleety wet snow has left a slushy deposit on most surfaces over the past hour. Cars are struggling a little. We seem to have struck lucky - perfect position for heaviest precipitation and greatest evaporative cooling. I'd describe today as a surprise snowfall, in the midst of a very mild period..

Ice will be a major hazard this evening and overnight and tomorrow morning.

Its the third Saturday in a row which has been a write off weather wise. Businesses are struggling severely here.

Yes  - we are up visiting at Ings and into Central Lakes quite often usually pre Christmas - not ventured up at all as yet.

Turning more to snow now, temp 1.7c, some of the higher routes are affected by lying snow.

It is, as it happens, having a good go at snowing in cockermouth now. The hills around having decent falls of snow, which has the benefit of 'sticking the rain to the gound' which is better than it sliding off - no impact thus far on the rivers from todays wetness here.

8.2°C here now after a low of 4.1 at 09:00. The warm sector has moved in. No sign of the colder air behind yet, although the pressure is still dropping so I suppose I wouldn't expect the temp to drop until the pressure starts rising again.

The ground temperature must be below 0C for freezing rain to occur.
We just have rain, everywhere.

Some bigger flakes mixed in now, no chance of it laying but nice to see snow falling.

Large temp contrast across the region with southern parts into double figures and up here the low single figures!

Can you's actually cope with much more rain before you become Britain's venice? At least some of it'll fall as snow today but then you've got melting,

Rain? What's that?
