I'm a bit surprised at that as although it's been raining on and off since early evening, it's certainly not been heavy and the stream immediately beyond the bottom of my garden, a tributary of the Irwell is pretty well at normal levels.

maybe they are expecting heavier rain overnight although most rivers don't need a lot of topping up at the

moment.

The detail on the link suggests the alert is due to expected overnight rainfall.

Makes sense then and looking at the models, plenty more on the way over the weekend so not much chance of things drying at, at least in the short term.

Very little southwards movement of this rain band yet, it's just taking the proverbial with Cumbria.  I expect it will fizzle out by the time it comes south of Blackpool.

Yes the local forecast was showing heavy rain from 10pm, not had anything yet. North Lancs & Cumbria copping it all again.

Some locals in Glenridding saying that tonight's flooding is worse than Saturdays, it wouldn't take much to over-top the now damaged beck defenses and it looks like it has, 3ft of fast-moving water in places.

Several properties in St Michaels a few miles north of Preston has been evacuated overnight.  Flood defences were damaged over the weekend and the temporary repairs put in place by the EA have started to leak.  2 rivers meet there the Brock and the Wyre, went over the Wyre this morning and it was in full spate again.  Need more than a few dry days really to get rid of the water that is sitting all over at the moment.
