A very unsettled few days coming up, according to the latest forecasts. The wind predictions throughout Saturday are a real eye-opener on XC Weather.

Yes Bish, Certainly an interesting weekend coming up as you say, Gusts maybe reaching 60/70mph and some very heavy rain to boot. With the ground already saturated flooding in places is looking likely.

Don't know what Solihull did, but the weather is really losing its temper with the place. Throwing about so much heavy, squally, rain over the area.

Just driven home from folks over in Aldridge to Solihull, the rain north of Birmingham was unbelievable, died down a bit city centre then picked up again buy the cricket ground. The road leading up to Kings Heath (Russell road I think) was like a river

Some serious road flooding around here this evening. Some of the heaviest rain I have seen in a long time. Torrential. Some notorious roads almost impassable.

The highest gust so far today is 51 mph shortly after 1800, not quite as high as yesterday evening which managed 58 mph at 2254.

Zero rain here so far, PM. But definitely getting very wind now!

Most areas to the north and west of here must be getting slammed with heavy rain and very strong winds right now.

Very windy now here. Flooding in the town centre is receding steadily, though I doubt the barriers will come down for a while given the forecast. At least we're not suffering the horrendous conditions they've got in Cumbria; hope everyone up there stays safe.

Scary weather! Feel so sorry for all those affected by the flooding. It's awful at any time but especially sad just before Christmas :(

I am glad we avoided all that rain in Cumbria, but I am certainly not impressed with the lack of wind in my area. I just don't understand how the Midlands can avoid so much wind.

Fine by me, the more storms we avoid the better, still feel the north of the region though will be wet tomorrow, Sunday again

Very windy here too today. Trees and poles swaying lots. At least it has been dry and we look to continue to see a mostly drying out process in the coming week. Still some rain but not as much as recently. Dread to think what to think some our riverside towns would be like if we were having Cumbrias rainfall. Would be some very major flooding so we are very lucky. Anything is always possible Imo in this world. We could have been seeing record breaking flood levels. Thankfully we have escaped with just a windy day really!

Ambleside has had 151mm since midnight. IIRC that's a little more than Pershore got on 20 July 2007, and we all know what those floods did to this part of the world. (Though here in Bewdley, Dec 2000 is the worst I've ever seen.) Not directly comparable because of topology etc, but still.

  • April 2024 - Was it that cold overall? A look at the statistics

General perception from many is that April was a cold month, but statistics would suggest otherwise, with the average temperature for the whole month coming in just above the 30 year average for the UK as a whole.
