Looks like Snow only for North/NW this weekend enjoy it whoever is up there. Typical was up there last weekend and nothing, missed snow down my way, now swapped places lol, just realised it's me that's likely the snow shield!

Yes i see there's warnings out for Snow from the METO for the Highlands :D

"Frequent, often heavy showers of sleet, snow and hail will affect much of northern Scotland during the weekend. The heaviest snowfall will be over high ground where drifting is possible in the strong westerly winds but very little snow is expected on the immediate western coasts. Ice may also develop on any untreated surfaces during the overnight and early morning periods. Please be aware that there could be some difficult travelling conditions over the weekend, especially over the higher routes.

A cold, unstable westerly flow originating from Greenland will affect northern Scotland for much of the weekend. This will bring frequent sleet, snow and hail showers. Snow accumulations of 5-10 cm are likely away from the immediate western coastal margins with 10-20 cm likely over high ground, above around 200-300 m. With strong to gale force winds, blizzard conditions and drifting are likely over high ground."

Motorist filmed driving with windscreen full of snow

A motorist has been caught on camera driving with a windscreen obscured by snow in rush-hour traffic.

The incident happened on a road between Garlogie and Westhill in Aberdeenshire.

I'm an enthusiast of winter driving, but for me this is way to extreme / 'out there man'.

Ha, no, I saw that too, some way to drive to work. The guy was probably relying on 'lane-assist' and 'adaptive cruise control'!

Hoping to get the winters fitted  very soon as I'm heading back north next week to a new job.  Summer tyres aren't my idea of fun, especially when people turn and mouth 'mongooseing idiot' at you when the tyres scrabble on the slimy surface.

Gonna get 'Slochd-ered' eh?  Although a nephew of mine has pointed out that English people are more likely to think it closer to 'Sloshed'...  :drinks:

I think it's just "Sloch'd", i.e. "I'm away tae get Sloch'd on the Tomatin".

Something like that anyway.

I so want to be back in Carrbridge based on the forecast.

Oh fer pity's sake...

What happened to Paul's plan of a genteel Scottish gathering with Earl Grey and teacakes?

I'd hardly call myself an exponent, NR - but I did learn a wee bit, when in Scotland. I was 'encouraged' by the Anglicization, 'Benevean Dam'. It irritated me then and it irritates me now. Tha thu 'cur fàilte air a h-uile! :D

You know, Google Translate's introduction of Gaelic has actually come in useful tonight.

2C and raining. Could be the stuck record of the weekend.

edit at 8:35 - properly snowing now although not sticking and looking at the forecast, it almost certainly won't just here.  But a hint for anyone inland and up a little bit - this lot's for you!

Morning all,

Dry bright and breezy in NE Fife this morning and looking at the forecast/models that could be the theme for much of the coming week over here. Overnight frosts will be an increasing risk after winds die down this weekend.

Currently 3.3c.

I know they change it more often than some people change their underpants but the Met-O medium to long term outlook is fairly bullish about cold and snow prospects for this time of year. Fingers crossed it's right :)

Strangely the Aultguish camera on trafficscotlandsillyiconsnonsense.orgasm is NOT showing whiteness this afternoon - it's at something like 250m so that's a bit of a surprise to me anyway. We've had sleet at sea level.

I don't think NR would say anything as crude as that. Still getting caught out by random quoting errors.

But the Slochd at a shade over 400m is looking quite wintry!

edit at 5.30 - now sleet with the odd proper flake in here. Not bad considering the upper temps - and as the light fades at Aultguish, wee bits of whiteness appear.
