Could someone explain why winds would be stronger after the rain band moves through.  Don’t want to ask in Eunice thread as it is a bickering fest at the moment.

Glad in some ways it hasn t come to severe gales here no damage to clean up after,I was expecting far more looking at the just yesterdays 12z run...

Still got strong of squally gales from the west /NW..today.

Been very wet though..Cold air should be digging in now..

Well that was completely over hyped....a bit of rain and breezy conditions with the odd moderate gust thrown in!

Well, the red warning has now expired. While it hasn't been as bad here in the Valleys as I was fearing (shelter from all of the hills/mountains, I expect), I do think the red warning was fully justified considering some of the gusts (122 mph!) and damage we've seen elsewhere. The Met Office's hourly forecast now seems to be suggesting that the worst has passed here (Nelson), with a slow decline in gust speeds throughout the afternoon, but it'll still be very gusty in south Wales and with the worst still very much to come in the rest of southern Britain.

We are quite exposed here, we can see the Bristol channel. We had a few intense bursts. Still a bit wild.

we experienced several worse episodes during Winter 2013/14  and a few more since. Cheeky little storm though.

Crikey Mickey!  At clients house (converted barn on hillside) and wind whipping  around the house and everything that can creak is creaking and I want to go home.

No where near as bad as forecast for most places and not worth the red warnings for the majority of South Wales. That is a good thing mind because wot was forecast would have caused a lot more damage

I think the red was justified - there has been quite a bit of damage along the South Coast, a petrol station in Barry lost its roof, in Bridgend there are trees down and quite a few roof slates went flying, including my parents house, it was very bad for a couple hours.

We have some sleety hail now, sky has gone orangey.

Agreed, I think the red warning was fully justified - two lorries overturned on the M4, trees down, roofs blown off, huge waves on the coast. I'm not sure what some people were expecting.

There's always trees down, lorries overturned etc in storms every winter, you have heard more about this 1 because there was more media coverage from it being a red warning so you hear of everything newsworthy
