Just had the first few flurries of this winter season. Meanwhile there's a 50% meltdown in the MOD thread but I can't really figure out why. Probably because of the low near Azores some people were chasing in FI and now some models decided to send it somewhere else. 😬🤔

Ive been going back through pressure patterns and this disturbance is the same one modelled for the early afternoon pushed back 6 hours. Models firming up on timings but good to see placement in the same areas all the same

I don't see Arpege mentioned a great deal in the mod thread. How reliable does it tend to be?

Met office app is starting to show a little light snow for tomorrow evening now (South Yorkshire).  ❄️

Nice -  It think we should do ok out of this spell 👍

I know it well but normally not in the winter months. I've only been past the Hole of Horcum once when the main road across the Moors has been tricky because of snow and that was the very early and cold, snowy Easter of 2008.

No snow but cold definitely here now. Only dropped to 1C last night but only up to 2.6C at noon today and it has been bright all morning (couple of very light showers). Take that at the start of an at least week long cold spell. Very interesting times ahead and im hopeful we will get snow at some point.

really want kids to be able to go on a Christmas lights walk when its snowing. Takes it all to another level in my humble opinion.

Small disturbance tomorrow evening could bring some showers inland, best for NE parts.

But unfortunately there is a warm air sector, so would think sleet or wet non-settling snow below 200m.

It looks like METO just updated their short term outlook and they're now mentioning freezing spray/fog. Most probably they will issue a warning on Friday or Saturday. I reckon it's going to be a yellow warning but I wouldn't rule out an amber one.

Nothing forecast here in the forecasts although GFS has another twitch for Sunday otherwise dry all the way.

Be interesting to see how this plays out, I seen a few models/precipitation charts having bulk of precipitation to the far East and feeding in off the North Sea. Yet a few others including look north more keen on heavier precipitation for those more to the west.

Wouldn't be surprised if either we end up with no more than an odd furry or a dreaded mild sector bedded in hampering snow accumulations away from high ground 😄

Programme just started on BBC4 now - Winterwatch 1963:The Big Freeze…claims was the “worst winter of the 20th century”…..probably being shown to tell us to stop being wusses & just get on with this week 😂
