Yorkshire and E England regional discussion

A lot of people are looking at parameters that only work in a normal winter day

The reason why weve been lucky is the longer you have embedded cold the less these parameters matter because it cools the armosphere higher and higher up.

These mechamics are what build cold pools and see 850s rise in situ as we get closer to an event on the models

Your still paying back what you owe for that 17" snowfall you got sometime in december 2010, whilst 95% of the region missed out!

That was one of my most painful days in weather watching!

Haha yeah was frustrating for you lot and north yorkshire while south Yorkshire ended up with 2ft

And the conditions were right for that. Totally different situation this.

Please explain the difference in conditions for someone who struggles with the charts then

People in the thread were saying similar things back then about lower areas struggling, but as mentioned I'm very low down and got a decent covering, i just think the below 200 metres it wont snow is a default message people throw out there and living in a low lying area it really can grate sometimes.  Some would probably still say that whatever parameters the models were showing.

Sure that wasn't boxing a few years later. Marginal situation better than this one though and we got caught under a stationary band of heavy rain to north of us got zippo and to the south of us got zippo. Dumped a nice load.

Read the guide and sign up for netweather extra. I'll just end up repeating it.

I live at 15 metres above sea level not far from Leeds, on Saturday the 2nd January we got a good dumping of snow, would be interested to know what people were predicting then for lower levels and what the temp, dew point, wet bulb etc was.

Completely different setup, the uppers in a slack flow were eligible for snowfall, at the time the modification from the north sea was expected to be stronger hence why you saw a a few of cm's of snow.

We all clearly have differing opinions which is no bad thing but with the met on this sporadic 2-5cms on low ground differences up and down locally and i guess well see!

Will be exciting to hear everyones snow reports come the day

Trying to help my wife plan for her journey to get her Covid Vacine on Thursday at noon. What time are we likely to see snow on Thursday? She needs to travel from our home 190m above Bingley to Bradford.

Can't remember date but just remember a big streamer that came in from east coast, straight through doncaster, scunthorpe, then sheffield dumping snow all day long.

Well it could all change for the better tomorrows run and we may get Saturday back. In the meantime I think the unexpected dump must have been on the 29th Dec 2017.  Had to walk my friend home that day and she complained about it me doing it all the way two days later she told me for not walking her to the door as she fell over.

Yeah, propper snow like what you would see in the states. Actually was 1/12

Guess these are the uppers you need for quality snow like that.
