Hope we do see some snow tomorrow, personally I can't think of anything more dismal than days when it's both cold and raining.

This is only because these areas are the first areas to ser rain turn to snow.

Dont be surprised as we get nearer to see areas further south added to it

Might be worth noting that there could be a few surprises for some today.

Some models predicting snow at 5pm today as surprised me but i suspect its just the models showing snow over 200/300 as opposed to no snow at all for these times

I know this is only from the weather outlopk but it surprisingly got my snow totals right two weeks ago.

Over night the icons around midnight have changed to all snow giving me more than 12 hours of snow and have updated yesterdays totals of 3-7cm to 9-12cm.

Well see take it with a large pinch of salt!!

It’s a really tricky scenario as to who will and who won’t, what elevation, how far south how far west will any potential be. What time the potential snow will start and for where. It’s so marginal but with a load of other factors thrown in. I wouldn’t want to be putting my name on a televised weather forecast for this one. Think I’ll be a fly on the wall and watch the radar. Lol

I see an Amber Warning for snow has been issued for areas to our North.

I suspect the yellow warning issued yesterday for our area will be updated within the hour....

More of Yorkshire and the Midlands in play?

Yes! The snow in harrogate should have had an amber warning and wasnt picked up by models or by the met such is the nature of snowfall.

Would be good if people with weather stations could provide updates on temperature dps and humidity. Humidity needs to be around 95-97% at least to leave space for evaporative cooling when the colder uppers back west

We had a freezing rain event probably over five years ago. It rained on frozen ground in the morning school run time. Suddenly everyone was skating and struggling to stay up on their feet. Kids found it fun but it was very scary. Especially when a bus couldn’t stop at a junction and slid straight onto a main road. Fortunately nothing  was coming. It really is deathly.

Same here about 5 years ago people couldn’t walk like you say cars sliding all over was crazy scenes it’s not nice at all!

I think they will wait for the 12z. Theyll leave it as long as possible for more accurate starting conditions before issuing any more warnings

There appears to be some brighter echoes heading this way on the radar.  Too early for evaporative cooling to play its part?

2-5cms yellow snow warning issued for Saturday now ?❄

Screenshot_20210113-112009_Met Office.jpg

Issued: 11:14 (UTC) on Wed 13 Jan 2021

An area of rain pushing eastwards is expected to turn snow in places as it encounters colder air across Scotland and parts of northern and eastern England. At first the main hazard may be rain falling onto frozen surfaces leading to ice, especially on higher level routes. However snow becomes more likely during the early morning. Heavier snowfall is more likely above 200 m in Scotland and northern England, where 5-10 cm of snow may accumulate, possibly 20 cm on highest routes. At lower levels and further south, 2-5 cm of snow may accumulate in places, but the situation is finely balanced, with the possibility that most lower-lying areas, especially in the east, will see rain or sleet rather than snow.

Dry as a bone here so far, no ppn at all.

Milder air maybe making a bit of inroads though, currently 2.9c with dew of 1.7

Looking at the bright echoes on the radar this is certainly an active front.

Bodes well for evaporative cooling to come into play tonight and tomorrow but flooding but might be more of an issue before that?!
