The forecast is a little wrong for today unless Barra is ahead of schedule, as it was supposed to be clear(ish) skies this morning at sunrise with no PPN expected until at least 1pm, looking at the Radar and there's quite the unexpected band of sleet/snow now moving NE across Wales and the Midlands.

First spots of rain falling. Doesn't appear to be snowing on the Fflintshire hills which I guess is not great news for anyone wanting snow below 350m?

It looks seem to be coming in earlier than expected yesterday and looking at the radar, much of the region will know whether they are getting wet or white within the next couple of hours.

just had to move the car to get the wheels bins out and it was pretty icy so it’s a good indicator for at least a period of snow but the graphics on this mornings local BBC forecast was far from inspiring if it’s snow you want.

Radar shows precipitation incoming... current temp 3.1 degrees. Doubt we'll see any snow might be some wet flakes in the air. Either way a miserable dark December day on the way.

Cloud came in too early. Didn’t give temp enough time to drop before precp.

Outlook less than inspiring.. fast forward 10 days and we might see the sun again. It looks a very dull dark spell ahead in the depths of the darkest part of the year.

I know the apps are rated chocolate fireguard effectiveness but the rainfall timings seem to be out a lot lately.  As others have mentioned the rain already knocking on the door of most areas now.  The squall line already showing west of wales, and that's the fat lady's closing bellows.  No doubt the winds will stick around for most of today, with showers to follow.

Are we getting the usual Manchester rain shadow thus far? Looking like it going by radar… 2c gusty winds feel like -4c

Given the number of directions we are sheltered from, it’s amazing that we get a fraction of the precipitation that falls.

If the radar is anything to go off, the only thing this part of the region will get is the squall line but given that it’s probably only rain, I can take a dry day.

Always good here to have a strong south westerly wind when it comes to rain (awful for snow), it shears off the intensity ahead of the main rain band.  I've no doubt we will get an heavier burst at some point, but places further south and west are in the firing line today.

Raining, cold, dark, breezy. Typical December weather really - we're looking down the zonal barrel as well. At least we had the early surprise snow - I'll now go into my mode of hoping for higher pressure at some point to see the sun for more than 10 minutes before 2022.

It looks like the West Pennine Moors are swallowing all the heavy stuff heading in my direction so probably a bit moist on the top of Winter Hill at the moment.

Here the only think that has intensified is the wind.
