Another frost last night, down to -1. A nice sunny day, felt pleasant in the sun but cold in the shade.

Bit damp this morning after I assume was not too much rain last night, the wind already drying it away, managed not to take off to Oz on the dog walk this morning, but a few gusts made it hard to keep walking into it.

A bit later on and I captured the sun coming up and I'm counting this as the best sunrise of the year so far for me.

Gusty old day with the strongest winds down the E/SE coastline. Top gusts so far mid-day have been Weybourne on the north Norfolk coast at 45mph and 47mph at Langdon Bay on the Kent coast.

7hrs since the last post, this place should be buzzing. Been 1 of the poorest winters ever, and no sign of anything white and flaky, unless my dandruff counts. Has the fat lady sung yet, she's well overdue.

Windier than expected overnight with highest gust of 45mph recorded at 03:00.   Top temperature today 8.6°C early afternoon.  Blustery day with wind initially from a WNW direction overnight and this morning changed to NW and now back to WNW.  Currently 7mph with current temperature of 5.4°C and 82% humidity.  Pressure 1026.0hPa steady and 0.6mm of rain fell near midnight.

Nowhere near as stunning a sunset as @Eagle Eye had today and beautifully captured as ever.  Here though, managed to catch a bit of colour, all too rare this winter, from a chance passing of an upstairs window.

We had rain overnight, not a huge amount and a rather grey cloudy morning so far, still with a nagging wind so feeling colder than the 7c temp. Hopefully the cloud breaks and sun  makes it out at some point.

At least we are not having to endure Atlantic onslaught of wind and rain, flooding and misery.

Would rather this dry, bright and usable weather any day if it isn’t going to be a cold and snowy winter.

another nice day, if it keeps being like this then i'm happy enough. Just need to wait until the sun adds a bit more warmth to it now

La Nina has been the main driving force this Winter, this has just thrown up Rossby Wave after Rossby Wave with the models not being able to properly model the QBO except for the ECM which hasn't covered itself in glory either. When I wrote my post on the effects of the SSW I did allude that without a properly split vortex it was unlikely that we would have a snowy Winter so I'll count that as a win for me

Just sitting out right now in the sunshine and one wouldn’t think it’s still winter, wearing my winter coat, scarf and hat and now I regret it as i’m quite warm

A bit late in the day but it's been a decent day so far and I think this sums it up

After  valentines day looks a bit more livelier.. other than sunrises sunsets statistics  there really would not be much to say really and I know it's a personal weather preference but I do like something happening ,I really hope summer is hot hot and it doesn't match a non winter with a nothing - ness summer

If this pattern of Rossby Waves from La Nina ends in March, then I will be very annoyed because if it happened this Summer at the strength its been I think we would have a classic summer with lots of heat and lots of storms but I think it'll probably end in March knowing our luck

I'm posting this here and over in the SE Records and Stats thread. January 2022 stats for East Anglia courtesy of Dan Holley, Weatherquest:

EAST ANGLIA - DRY JANUARY 2022:

  • Mean temperature near-average (±0.0°C)
  • 5th driest January on record (31%)
  • Sunniest January on record (172%)
  • It's the first time over 100 hours of sunshine has been recorded in January, significantly beating the previous record...

And here's the Met Office UK anomaly maps for January and you can see how our Region fared. In a nutshell sunny, dry, and with above average number of frosty nights:
