SWR have updated news on the landslip/flooding and the Salisbury-Exeter line is now expected to be out of action until at least the end of Sunday 10th December 😞

Major disruption between Salisbury and Exeter St Davids expected until the end of the day on Sunday 10 December. Find details of all current incidents on National...

I came up from Teignmouth yesterday on the other GWR route but even that was blocked between Taunton and Westbury so we re-routed via Bristol.

With more rain expected this week and the Atlantic back to the fore things aren’t great on the flooding front.

Now 3.1 c, with light cloud and a blue sky.
Very light NE to Easterly wind

Nippy one last night got down to 0.2c.

Temperatures recovering well before the next onslaught of rain.

My apologies if I seem slightly railways obsessed but as someone who lives in the south-west without a car I’m acutely conscious of how important these arterial lines are.

So the situation with the Salisbury to Exeter line doesn’t look great to me. It’s a landslip above Crewkerne Tunnel. They’re saying overnight that the line will be closed until at least Monday but to my amateurish eye I could see this taking several weeks to sort out in a way which is truly declared safe?

Of course, further heavy rain this week isn’t exactly going to help matters.

Fear not on the railway front! I do drive but am utterly baffled by the railway infrastructure that was hastily lost in the 60's and what an amazing integrated transport network we could of had if foresight was in operation.  Pivoting back to the weather - just look at dawlish a brisk south easterly these days closes the railway on the wall, it wouldn't be a problem if the north route was still there!

Well when the sun came up and was shining brightly around 08.30 I was hopeful of a fine day.

Gloom, mist and fog prevail since soon after that!

So little sun recently, even on the dry days.

Although I live just along the coast from Dawlish and it’s a beautiful route I do wish the northern line would re-open. I always feel we’re living at the mercy of another storm or cliff fall. The last one to go through took out huge chunks of the sea wall between Dawlish and Teignmouth (the sea wall is closed to walkers until Christmas whilst they make repairs).

The north route is also stunningly beautiful. The re-opened double track to Okehampton is lovely. It wouldn’t really take much effort to push it through Meldon Quarry and Gunnislake to Plymouth.

I don't know why it's so cold I thought we were back under the atlantic?! Nearly froze on school run this morning

Stuck in between lows, so temps dropped overnight with the lack of wind and clear skies.

Temps will rise as this grot arrives...😭

-0.8°C this morning, and thick fog. Grey and 5°C.

Hoping for some rain tonight..

Looking at the forecast, I don't think you'll be disappointed with the amount of rain over the next few days.
