25.8c getting hotter…

Someone must have built a lot of airports, installed a million slabs of concrete and done some overnight 'encroaching' up there! Yorkshire & Humberside are also getting hot; earlier than was the case, yesterday, I think?

Thats good, we have a chance.

Looking at Radar,  the precipitation is light to moderate.  Are they expecting a sudden explosion of convection?

A hot and humid day today, warmest day of the year, reached 28.3C just under an hour ago, currently 27.2C and rather muggy. It was a sunny morning, but the clouds bubbled up fairly quickly around lunchtime. Plenty of cumulus around with some darkish bases, but nothing overly threatening yet.

I think that’s what’s meant to happen but it’s not guaranteed. Looks like the west of the region will see more action.

not sure if it’s due to the south easterly drift

Interesting some are saying its humid in this thread and in the storms thread. You wouldn't have guessed it going off Manchester Airport's TAF: 42% humidity and a dewpoint of 12C

Liverpool has 37% humidity and a dewpoint of 11C

Is it really humid?

Probably more the lack of wind that is giving people that impression- there was hardly any breeze this morning at all which is fairly unusual in this country, even in a hot spell. That said, it's not exceptionally dry air either.

Certainly feels muggy out. Dewpoint 14.6C and 45% humidity here. There is a bit of a breeze as well.

The storms forecast for today will be convergence-zone based rather than surface-based, so although the current overcast skies aren't ideal it all adds in to the extra moisture content which is primed and ready to go. A little more instability and the convergence to be established and then it's game-on.

Very dark clouds overhead now, wind picking up, feels like something is brewing.

Not a lot of rain here only just wetting the ground. God it really is difficult to get a decent thunderstorm in this region these days. Can remember regular ones years ago after a very warm day like today.
