Very poor summer's day here, feels more akin to the end of summer. Incessant bursts of rain throughout temps hovering around 14 degrees for much of the day, no sunshine or bright spells, chilly wind as well. Miserable.

Agreed but loving every single minute of it here in the northern lakes. The colours, and cloudscapes even in the foulest of weather are breath-taking. The landscapes scrubs quite well too

Weeks of tedium coming up now. Looking like very little rainfall and a rampant displaced Azores HP.

The stuff of nightmares if you like interesting weather

No, the west, certainly the Fylde Coast are usually drier than the higher ground towards the east.

the set up may be different further south or north across the region but across Lancashire, the common tendency would be drier west, wetter east.

not at the moment though.

Yes in Cumbria very much wetter west of M6 drier east of M6 - Cumbria is wide in the middle almost to the centre of the Pennines at Stainmore..

A word on today, woeful, I would describe it as a cold summers day, overcast all day, light intermittent rain throughout and temps just about hovering around 15 degrees. Quite miserable, that's 3 very poor summer days on the trot.

Mmm not in late June thank you! Conditions we tend to see more of second half of summer, indeed August but not at this stage in the summer. Many a milder day in October.

An hour of drizzle and looking at the radar the heaviest has already passed over… another fizzling front as it moves east….

Sat under a blanket watching telly

As expected, a wet morning, grey skies.  Lobelia looks beaten up and the slugs have had a good feast on the Petunias.  Weather app temp reading at a local weather station is 12°, garden thermometer says 10°.  Dare I admit to wanting to put the heating on for a few mins when I got up?

Aye, it hasn’t been a great summer so far but it’s unusual to open the curtains to heavy rain.

It’ll help the gardens but I hope the forecast of things drying out during the day comes true.

Didn’t actually get much rain here. Dampened the ground for sure but the bulk pushed up to the E of here.

Consensus from the local amateur stations is around 4mm

will it be frequent short sharp showers or will they go east and west of here?

Morning all.

Up at 5.30 with grey skies and heavy drizzle.  By 6.30, blue sky and bright .  Now, I'm parked near Stamford Park waiting on next community visit and its getting quite ⛅ with some big black bases forming.

Hopefully some big showers and thunder ⛈ storms this afternoon.

A whopping 4mm here, that´s double what we´ve had in the last 3 weeks. Beautifully sunny when I woke, clouding up a bit now.

Heavy but brief shower just after 1pm and that wonderful whiff of Petrichor.  All dried up now, and a sunny 19°.

Looks like a downpour on your doorstep.

Showers going west of here… some heavier ones developing… couple of hours hedge trimming and gardening whilst neighbours cutting down huge trees… just making chicken satay for tea…

19.7c feels nice in sun out of breeze…

Parked in Guidebridge.

Plenty of convection to the North and West

Yes, skies have darkened, looking south there is a slight green hue in the cloud, hail up there perhaps?  Not a spot of rain yet, it seems to be passing over quickly.

Nothing of note really here today. Not got a rain gauge these days unfortunately but it must have rained quite a bit last night as I had to tip a load of water off the garden chairs this morning and empty some pots full of water.

The first really showery day here for ages including one humdinger during the afternoon that left me sat in the car at work until it eased off.

plenty of warm sunshine in between though with a very respectable 19c reached late afternoon.

as my long since departed Grandad use to say…..it’s growing weather.

Mcr City Centre must be getting something decent now, dark skies and Armageddon radar blob showing just out to my west.  As usual missing it by a whisker here.

  • April 2024 - Was it that cold overall? A look at the statistics

General perception from many is that April was a cold month, but statistics would suggest otherwise, with the average temperature for the whole month coming in just above the 30 year average for the UK as a whole.
