A rare month where both of my forecast methods agree with each other.

11.9C, 30mm.

Much like April I expect a dry, largely settled month with an Azores Ridge nearby but primarily to our south or west so settled but westerly.

My April forecast was a big bust as I expected it to be much wetter and cooler than it was - based on what I saw as a similarity in the evolution at the end of March to what occurred at a similar time in 2000 and 2012.

This time, based mostly on what the models are currently showing, I'll go with 12.2 and 64mm. Similar to May 2011. Unusually high frequency of westerlies, cloudier than average everywhere, wet in the north, somewhat drier than average in the south but with relatively frequent days of light rain. A "boring" month, sadly - hoping we don't get locked into Atlantic influence until September now!

Few really warm days but a high frequency of days which reach the high teens coupled with a lack of really cold days.

Think we'll have to pay for the dry April, troughs dominating the UK whole month, winds mostly from the E/SE

13.0C, 97mm

14.5 and 40.5 mm.

Sooner or later a May will fill in that big gap between 1st and 2nd (which is 15.1 to 13.9).

That would be fantastic.  Would blow 1992 out of the water.

May will see a pattern change I reckon, with bouts of rain and cooler days.

11.3c and 85mm rain

Changing it to 12.3c and 55mm rain. Thanks

We've had three very warm May's recently 2017, 2018 and 2020. Last May was much cooler and wet.

May is my favourite month. Homegrown warmth can surface when.high pressure sticks overhead. It isn't often particularly humid just yet unless a long drawn southerly occurs, easterly airstreams often happen and away from east coast they are warm, there is a west bias here..  indeed the Atlantic typically remains dormant. Cold northerlies can often occur though and north westerlies remain chilly.

Can't see us breaking out of this very long warm period..  I'll go 12.2 degrees.
