Where did you find this out? That's quite interesting but would love some more info on that.

I requested them from the Met Office under a FoI request.

I then compared each year to the raw values to create an average conversion factor so I don't have to request the real values every time. The monthly sunshine anomaly maps use the corrected value rather than raw values as a base.

staying hot and dry here for the next week or so...32c today, then cools of little over the weekend then back into the low to mid 30s next week ..forecasting 34-35c for next Thursday.

Not sure if it's normal but I've noticed North America in general seems to have later seasons than us. Springs colder (and snowier) and autumns warmer (and sunnier/drier), even above 50N  - is that about correct?

Not sure if it's ever reached 35 in September in the UK. I do recall 34, but have the feeling that was the absolute highest. And a sustained spell of 30C+ temps this late in the year is very unusual (though not without precedent) in the UK. Late August until well into October is the period of the year above all others where UK residents look on with deep envy at much of the rest of the temperate-latitude world, where summer seems to linger... and linger.

I'll be thankful if I just see a sustained spell of 23-25 in the UK this September with what the charts are currently showing...

It has reached 35C on a couple of occasions in September, although not within any of our lifetimes. The date record for the 1st is 35.0C, and the 2nd is 35.6C, although the latter is somewhat disputed:

Ah yes 1906. I remember reading about that notable heatwave, so that would figure.

What i noticed about those daily september records is how many are very old... over half are over 100 years old. Thats remarkable for saying... im sure no other month has anything like as many.

In this warming world, surely its only a matter of time before more of those records fall..

Getting the worst of both worlds here in the South East today! Thick cumulus clouds approaching from the East slowly covering the sky and in the complete opposite direction, thick hazy cirrostratus clouds coming from West to East! Can't remember the last time 2 cloud types moved in the complete opposite direction. It is resulting in a cloud soup slowly eliminating the sun from the sky lol.

Can we take personal spats elsewhere please? Any further squabbles on the merits of Autumn will be removed.

Horrible end to the last weekend of summer in Austrian Alps. Rain and cold , only 10c this morning in the village. A UK high spells rain for us in summer and snow in winter.I would rather have the winter version. Nice to see most back in blighty keepng the 🌞  and warmth for a while longer.

My projected summer temp. anomalies against 1991-2020 mean, June +3.1, July +1.6, August +2.6. This is enough to surpass years like 2003,2015 or 2019 as the warmest summer ever. Gemer región Slovakia. Precipitation - June 22mm, July -94mm and August so far 20mm. Total deficit fór 2022 is around 200mm. So far no day below 25°C Max in August, spectacullar.

Would be interested to see the anomalies for Greece in general, in this area (Pieria, near the city of Katerini) August seems to have been distinctly wet though solely from thunderstorms and thundery showers, which admittedly have been organised and widespread on some days. There have been both hot and cool (relative to the norm) days so I don't think it's been a warm month by day, though nights have been persistently warm. Some days in the past two weeks maxed out at around 24 or 25, so perhaps it's not been much warmer than your site in Slovakia.

I think there must have been well over 20mm rainfall here too.

July was somewhat warm by day and very warm by night, though.

I was in SW Canada in Oct 2010 and was surprised how warm it still was then. In Banff maxes well into the teens and as late as 20 Oct Calgary which is high up had a max of 20 degrees. I think it was an unsually warm October that year and remember on leaving on the 20th it suddenly became much colder, I was lucky.

I’m back to wear jeans or trousers now, but if we get some more 24c days, I might get the shorts back on.

Once we drop to 20c, I’ll be wearing a light jacket.

The next step is once is drops to 16c or below, I’ll be wearing a fleece or jumper under the light jacket.

14c and below, and it’s winter gear out in force. Heavy jacket and hat etc.

Still got the shorts on here, personally it's still far too mild for trousers or jeans as I'd just end up sweating to be honest, even indoors it refuses to drop below about 22 or 23C...more than comfortable enough. Usually I give in by about the end of October when we do start to get some genuinely chillier days but even then it's not a given with our climate warming up more. Think a few years back in Oct 2017 when we had a run of temps nudging 20C just before the "red sun" because of hurricane Ophelia. What a weird day that was with the sky. Think it was the fires in Portugal that wafted up into the sky generating that red appearance. The following winter was pretty decent. I'd take another warm October for another Winter like that.

At last an August that holds it own in a decent summer. In recent good summers, it has been the weaker or even the worst summer month and when it has been the best, it was during a weak summer.

Yes an August that has bucked the recent trend. I think the last time August was the best summer month was 2016 - correct if wrong.

Yes 2016 I feel was the last time august was half decent.  You have to go back to 2003 to find an August as good as this one has been.  Wouldn't be surprised if the CET is about equal to 2003 actually, we shall see.

It's been notable for having practically no cool weather at all (in the SE anyway), I think further north has had a few cooler interludes (namely 3rd to 6th August and around 17th).  Also, it's s not been record breakingly sunny, but even the cloudier spells have been very useable and without interruption from pesky rain.

Hoping it will continue just for a while into September, with only a gradual decline towards the much needed rainfall.  The way this year has gone I can see 30c sometime in the month definitely.  Perhaps a 2011 style late September heatwave?
