12c to me is cool?  We get these temperatures often in winter down here in the south and it's only slightly above average

It got to 13 here, and yes normally that would be normal, but this year not had such a high temp since the December cold spell, so it felt like t shirt weather.

A max of 12.5C and min of 9.9C here today so a mean temp of 11.2C. That's 5.4C above the 1991-2020 average for 3rd February.

Although recent Februaries would have you think otherwise, this is what should be the just about the coldest point of the year on average so its far from normal!

If we don’t get any accumulating snow this month then this winter will be the most snowless winter I have ever experienced here, alongside 2013/14.

Welcome to life like the South!

Certainly does feel mild today. Do I like how it feels? Yes. Do I like the fact it's like it in February? No

Oh stop moaning it's only for 2 days lol! If I have to suffer depressing cloud then at least let me not freeze to death in it lol

Yes in the far south I haven't seen any lying snow for more than 4 years now.

But it should be cold(er) now😩

I'm with you on the cloud though, that can do one, and it looks like it will over the next few days.

I'm just fed up with the Netweather seven day forecast giving 95 percent chance of snow for my region (the Chilterns) which changes every time to 0. I vowed not to check anymore after one night the 95 percent at 2am became 0 percent within minutes. Yet years later I am still looking

Is the GFS a good model today🤔

What's it found this time, a snowflake on Day Ten?😁

Oh dear, I've just had a nasty thought: What if a green comet were to mess things up?!👍

Yep but have since found out there are snow domes in the Midlands, too!! 😬 🤣  However, Shropshire is a very nice part of the world and don't have to travel too far to find snow!

Only climatologically speaking. The temperature is dictated by airmass at this time of year and if winds are coming up from the SW Atlantic, it is going to be mild for the time of year no matter what climatology says. There was one recent year where it reached a ridiculous 20C in February.

And Salford, although my childhood memories being primarily in the +ve NAO dominated 1990's winters cloud my judgement somewhat, although winter 1995/6 brought some good snowfalls and freezing weather especially over the Christmas period when there was lying snow on Christmas day.

With the way things are going, I can see 20°C days in the latter half of February becoming more common soon.

I take it that's where the Express get their weather headlines. I swear in January they said we were actually experiencing a big freeze when the temps ranged from 7 to 11 degrees!🙄

If you jumble a load of scientific words together into a headline. The public think you're going to be correct.

Seems a bit OTT to me. Reading the text it even says temperatures will be near normal during the day and it will be sunny. So it's basically for a couple of nights of frost.

That was enough to tell me the article would be nonsense.

Is there a danger on these forums that we tend to fantasise about past winters? I find myself doing it and then check myself. No doubt winters have become milder overall but I also remember long snowless periods in the past. 1970 to 76 comes to mind before the colder winters of the late 70's. Apparently 1900 to 1915 were generally mild winters. This year has been pretty good I think. Compared to 61 to 91 its not far off cet average.  Compared to 91 to 2021 we are below average for UK temps. Also, because this winter has flitted from very mild to very cold, the cold periods have been quite memorable. Manchester, which rarely sees snow has done well this last few years including this year
