The area of precip coming out of Newcastle should reach us 11pm-1am , a weakened version giving local dustings, 65% risk

Slow moving heavy wintry showers developing from Friday 7pm onwards producing the risk of noteworthy snowfalls locally between Manchester and 5 miles from the coast.

Right, I'll book a B&B 5 miles in 😆

annnd guess what's happened.. cloud from the north (minus the snow) has spread in, and sent the temperature above 0C!

Tomorrow night I reckon heavy hail/graupel/ice pellet showers west of M6. Snow east of M6 or above 100 m.

Lightning risk at the coast.
Icy surfaces within 10 miles of the coast or above 50 m.

Yes i agree until after the nocturnal cooling really kicks in after 2am and combines with streamer activity to increase the risk further west down near the coast

Yo yo temps here by a degree, currently coming down -3.  Couple of apps now showing snow at around 11pm tonight, not sure if Macc will get a taste being sheltered by the peak district.

Yep certainly. If we get a prolonged streamer definitely we have a chance near the coast.

Quite surprised to see the showers in Scotland still looking rather sleety judging by the radar, thought they would be full on pink by now.

I guess the air isn't technically that cold (no colder than any other northerly or easterly), it's more a surface inversion type cold going on.. the sort that will lead to low night temperatures in inland and low lying areas. It will, apparently also lead to rain, sleet and ice pellets.

Yep fully prepared for that. Our hope lies in the cold prolonging and then maybe a slow attack from the SW before sliding SE, or even colder uppers from the north.

I reckon so, I can see it being a very slow breakdown with a few failed attempts. I can see the south coast being plastered with sleet and snow for a time too before it properly breaks down.

Believe me I'm not surprised at all, Runcorn does quite well I think, well it has now! Any settling?

Yes, I think we will finally end our drought this Winter, hopefully over the next week or so one way or another.

It lasted about 30 seconds. Nothing on the radar so assume just a locally-grown flurry. Runcorn has been poor for snow since around 2015 I believe. Didn’t have any last winter. The last flakes I saw were November 2021, that was all!
