2.6C and rising, and sometimes falling slightly, it's basically around 2C and thats it. Amazing to see the differences across a relatively small areas. West Kirby up the coast here is 5C, yet a similar distance southeast its -2C.

2c? Tropical 🌴 compared to the nearly -3c here! Colder already  I think than any nights last winter locally that's for sure. Think it'll be the potential for prolonged cold and bitter cold nights that will stand out in this cold spell - hopefully a snow event thrown in there too but it is the NW of England we are talking about here if snow can avoid us it will! 😉 🥶❄️

Always wonder how accurate my sensor is, currently says -0.4 degrees, but suspect it is colder outside than that, especillay given how much colder a number of places closer to the coast and further south are.

The main theme of this cold period will be the cold temperatures, we've had many very cold periods with little snow, still hopeful we may seem some snow at some point. Could become quite monotonous the weather in the days ahead otherwise, like a high pressure that produces endless dry sunny days in summer or cloudy days.

I'm dubious about many people's reported temperatures, they seem very low.. not sure how accurate most are. Current lows in the region are Manchester Airport -3 degrees, Keswick -3.3 degrees and Carlisle -3 degrees, Shap lowest at -6.7 degrees.

MAN Airport briefly dropped to -4 degrees, now back to -3.

Nice thick Frost here you can even see it on some paths, not like that since 2010

The last notably frosty period was February 2021, had a number of days with thick frost on the ground earlier in the month. April 2021 was very frosty but alas the sun quickly got to work on it.

Last winter was devoid of much frost. If you can't have snow, a thick hoar frost coating everything is second best. However, the airstream is very dry at present, and could do with some more moisture to produce rime thick frost that can look like snow. We may such conditions embed themselves in the days ahead.

We had a good frosty day at the end of Nov 21 and a few in January, though they weren't anything special really. This spell could go on for a week or more, haven't seen this many sub zero minima since 2018.

Well that’s the first. It got so cold that it froze and crashed my outdoor temp sensor. Had to manually restart it.

Last recorded temp was -3.0c

Late Dec 2020 and much of Jan 2021 brought a number of says sub zero minima, indeed the 24th Dec to about 9 Jan brought most days with sub minima. The current spell is reminding me somwhat of early Dec 2012 that brought alot of frost but no snow.
