Already some early strikes between Manchester city center & Preston at 10:30am which bodes well as it shows the instability is there from solar heating.

Could contain: Chart, Plot, Map, Atlas, Diagram and this is tracking SW -> NE so hoping for some action mid afternoon perhaps with the sunshine between the current downpour and that warming things up a bit 🙂

A few webcams around the storm near Selby showed some decent sized hail - hard to tell on cameras though. Any reports from the area?

I live 10 miles south, just had some tiny little pellets mixed in with the rain although i'm south of the crazy cell. Wouldn't surprise me if there was some large hail to the north- it's exploded on radar and has some really nice structure from over here

Starting to see some convection now as daytime heating kicks in. 12.5°C and 81% humidity, so a lot of moisture lower down.

Nice little heavy shower lasting no more than a minute now, pretty big drops and got heavier just as I was recording.

Today could be a day for mini-Supercells and/or an isolated tornado is possible. Quoting Cameron Nixon;

"author’s rule of thumb is that if your hodograph features a deep layer of 0–1-km storm-relative inflow weaker than 25 kt, you’re probably dealing with mini-supercells!"

Here's my old explanation of what everything is from an old event. Note that when I said straight for the deep-layer shearing I meant diagonal. You want horizontal (ish) deep-layer shearing for Supercells. Note that it has some links to the event that don't apply here.

Most Storms appear to be high precipitation mode according to the soundings and that could make for some quite good dark moody shots but maybe not for structural shots of an updraft.

A couple taken from Wales and southern England/the Midlands.

Most of these appear to be generally more multi-cell favourable with low-level shearing and streamwise vorticity characteristics suggesting an isolated tornado is still possible.
