I find the distribution of storms a strange thing. It seems like different places are favoured year by year. Last year i recall the south was favoured with places such as the Sussex coastlines getting numerous storms, and yet there was nothing around here until September. Infact the Midlands had very little. I know storm chasing was expensive last year as I had to travel a long way to get anything.

Here in Belper, storms have been slim pickings since i moved here in February 2017 with nothing at all until the 24th July 2019 and then just 17th June 2020, 28th July 2021 and 9th September 2022.

This year it's been the opposite way. The south has had very little but the Midlands and NW England has had lots. Here there's been more storms this year over Belper than the years 2017 to 2022 put together, although even now the stronger storms have stayed away.

I dont recall a year with such a disparity in distribution though. Thankfully still plenty of time for more of the country to get storms as we are only half way through the storm season.

Very true. What is really annoying is that there have been 5 times this year where quite active storms just missed here by a few miles. Yesterday in the morning torrential rain fell to the west of us then in the afternoon a thunderstorm developed 2 miles in the east , the MCS (two occasions) in JUne missed here by about 4 miles to the south and 8 miles to the north. We have had nothing of note all summer but distant rumbles. This is very common - the last half decent storm was overnight in September 2016 when a large part of the south had a deluge. I just cant wait for a half decent storm as my kids have never really witnessed a thunderstorm yet.

Still pushing through as well, one due imminently.

I think this was the cell that produced the sferics from earlier

Some decent pileus and showers around tonight after a week of cloudless greek heat. Tomorrow will be pretty much the same with slightly higher Cape values in East Anglia.

Thanks @Coops241180 for pointing it out. A seemingly active thunderstorm has exploded to the East of Manchester moving E/SE into a seemingly zero-cape environment. Very surprising 😀🤩

A nice anvil visible past the cumulus clouds here (to the NW).

Keeping an eye on the Stourbridge Cell, it's looking strong.
