Just asking on behalf my team June 1995, how come it lost on the "consecutive days above 30C" when it had 5 on the trot compared to 3 for August 1911? Two separate bunches of 3 isn't 6 consecutive days....

As 1911 achieved two separate stints of three consecutive days, both are counted towards the total, and June 1995 only managed 5 overall. Had June 1995 achieved another 30C day then it would've won vs 3+3 as it would've had an unbroken stint of six, but it fell short. If a heatwave manages two separate consecutive runs of 30C, then both should probably be counted, otherwise the heatwave is getting unfairly nerfed.

Update: To avoid confusion, the "Total consecutive 30C days" criterion will now be tweaked to total 30C days overall. No previous scores are affected. Apologies for any confusion with this criterion 😔

August 1997 wins!

While May 1922 put up a very respectable fight for what it's worth, it was unfortunately unable to overcome the heavyweight that is August 1997. Congratulations hillbilly, August 1997 is moving on to round 2! Bad luck Capser, May 1922 is on the next train back to Farnborough via St James's Park 😆

The next match is July 1923 vs August 2003, at 4pm today. Who do you think will win this match? 🥳

August 2003 wins!

July 1923 put up a valiant fight, but unfortunately it had no chance against the monster that is August 2003 and was wiped out on an 8-1 loss. Congratulations Summer8906, August 2003 is advancing to round 2! Bad luck Weather-history, July 1923 is off home. This also means that both of Weather-history's nominees have been eliminated. Better luck next time!

The last match of the day will be August 1930 vs July 2006 at 7pm! Who do you think will win that match? 🥳

August 1932 wins!

August 1932 may have been a short but intense heatwave, but unfortunately June 2010 was perhaps the weakest contestant to be nominated, and failed to even score a point of its own, achieving its only point of the tournament in a tie. Congratulations Metwatch, August 1932 will be advancing to round 2! Bad luck WYorksWeather, June 2010 is going home.

Today's next match will be May 1944 vs September/October 2011, at 4pm! This one could be the closest so far 🥳

May/June 1947 wins!

While July 2013 is an impressively long heatwave, it was unfortunately far too dilute to take on a more hit-and-run style heatwave like May/June 1947. Congratulations hillbilly, May/June 1947 is advancing to round 2! Bad luck daveinSB, July 2013 is off home to Northern Ireland 😄

That concludes today's matches! Today held our two closest matches yet! Tomorrow's matches are August 1947 vs July 2014 at 1pm, August 1955 vs July 2016 at 4pm, and June 1957 vs September 2016 at 7pm! Who do you think will win these matches? 🥳

Side note: The Total station entrants count will be retired from the next stats update, as it honestly takes too much time for me to update it, and no one seems to care about it anyway. I will reinstate it if sufficient numbers of people would wish to have it back.

Welcome back to the Hottest Heatwave of All Time Championship! Now that some of the favourites have muscled their way through to the second round, it looks as though we're having some more interesting matches over the next couple of days.

Today's matches are August 1947 vs July 2014 at 1pm, August 1955 vs July 2016 at 4pm and June 1957 vs September 2016 at 7pm! If you ask me, none of these contestants will completely run away with their matches, which makes them all the more suspensful 🥳

Side note, it appears I forgot to add August 2003 and July 1923 to the score total. I'll do a quick stats update for them before today's games begin. This is why people with ADHD shouldn't host tournaments 🤣 Please always let me know if you ever spot a mistake.
