Trying to work out what's falling out of the sky. Seems to be raining, sleeting and snowing all at the same time. Just can't see why it can't be either/or lol....

It had been sleeting with the occasional snow flake in Ripon from 12 until 4pm which has led to some really wet surfaces. Tomorrow morning is going to be an ice rink.

No covering here hopefully February /March will deliver the goods but it’s been nice to have some Crisp cold air and ☀️! After all the rain it’s been nice to feel like you can go outside again without getting Soaked.

Non event for here, not that it will stop those in the MOD thread from claiming the next blocking high will be more resilient against attacks from the Atlantic than modelling shows 😂 My experience is the opposite is true at least over recent years!

Snowed and was looking good around 10pm but then turned sleety associated with milder sector. Then turned back to snow.  Everything covered in  a thin later of frozen slushy snow , could have been so much better if it was 0.5c cooler

Had a few more cm's from the evening / night lot, now is about 5cm's.

Massive issues though here this morning, as temperatures dropped below the level where the grit works correctly, so the roads are difficult. Wish we had a working weather station to find out what it's actually got to.

From about 4am the temp dropped off a cliff by me from 0 to -6 in the space of 3 hours.

Nothing happened in Rotherham sadly it's just icy and frosty this morning.

First frost of the spell, mon and tues were completely dry on car and ground.

-2 here at the moment, let's see if we can get an ice day....

I think we have learnt a lot from this cold spell, especially no matter how good the charts look nothing is set in stone.

For me this cold spell has dismissed the notion you need cold soil/ground temperatures for snow to settle (need a good week or two of frosts.) Almost down to sea level in Liverpool the snow settled yesterday morning, even after all the mild dross we have had already most of this winter. Only did it melt once the temperature rose above freezing.

I say from now on we need

1. The battleground snow with heavy long lasting precipitation with evaporative cooling coming in to play.

2. The beast from the east -10-15 uppers with showers feeding in from the east with no high ground eating them up.

Anything else away from Northern Scotland will just be standard winter fare, with disappointments easy to come by!

The cold has certainly arrived so it's not a bust in that regard - I think we've just been a bit unfortunate on when/where the precipitation has been.

Must be sickening to be on the south coast, the band of snow is literally skirting the coast and 30 miles from what would have been an epic dumping across the entire region.

Interesting that the MetO surface pressure chart forecast for midday tomorrow shows a convergance line down the east coast. That could give some localised significant snow.image.thumb.png.94f2470c5876bfda74d3be34336d6c45.png

Temperature has stabilised at -1C here. Maybe an ice day? Would be impressive under full sun.

Yes could be a good day for you 👍.

Looks like shower activity popping up later in the day perhaps pushing in a little inland late on.

-1.3 here still so still a chance of an ice day. It's bright sun and it's melted everything it's in view of but still frosty in shaded areas

2.3C here after -2C this morning. Lovely blue sky. Met have put out a weather warning for the east coast, just about in it here, not expecting much but maybe a few snow showers Thursday morning. After a glimmer of hope yesterday in the longer term it looks like we end up with a Euro high that gets flattened back south, way too much energy to the north.

I didn't expect the Wind Weather Warning for Sunday to
leave out the East so much.
Perhaps it will alter before the event.

Aye I’m thinking of a trip to coast early morning, depending on radar

There seems to be a lot of divergance on the forecasts with close 60mph gusts predicted by Netweather and just over 40mph predicted by MetO

I can't wait for this cold spell to come to an end! Have a week off the weather then come back hopefully for a fresh new chase. A clean slate!

This cold spell along with Scotland's snow can be sent to the lowest depths of hell, worst cold spell of all time.

The worst thing now is I still can't stop looking at radar hoping for something to happen even though there is zero chance 🤪 Insanity of a UK snow chaser!

Yes this forecast map has a high gusts
of around 60-65 mph for my location.

I just put on a live cam from Sapporo to get my virtual snow fix.

This can't happen. The cold is too easy to shift 😁.

Might as well blow it out.

Currently -2.8 🥶

Well the temps didn't get above freezing here today so at least that's something of note from this week, but I can't really say an ice day for the 24h period as temps were well above freezing in the early hours of this morning. Frustrating!

Same for many of us I suspect...

UKMO Precip charts look interesting tomorrow for us. Somewhere is going to get lucky in the morning along the coast.
