Off topic with this one, { i will place this in the Moon Phase thread later}

Personally im looking at a cold period between 9th December and the 17th December , probably lasting until the 23rd december, then turning unfortunately mild, (full Moon on the 23rd usually sees mild and windy weather] There could be rain aound the 23rd/ 24th or 25th/ . In Decmeber over the last two years we have had temps between 6c to 11c around the Full Moon, so like i say ,, i would expect to see it stay mild until the early part of the new year , (until around the 8th New Moon 15th first quarter}Then very cold

The chances must be extremely slim as we havent had many white xams...In fact I think I can remember only one,but not sure it was so long ago..

more chance of a mild heat wave in the current conditions of our climate

Those dates reminds me of a few past christmases when we had snow either side of christmas and a mild xmas followed by a cold near year with snow in the 90`s

Last 2 mild ones were actually only 2002/03 as all the others in the 00`s were cold days here.

2000/0c

2001/2c

2002/8c

2003/8c

2004/0c

2005/3c

About 5 or 6 (I think) years ago we had a snowfall a few days before Christmas and it actually stayed on the ground for a few days. Up the road from me is a half-timbered pub and it always has a decorated and lit Christmas tree outside (at Christmas, I mean!). I was walking past it and the sky had cleared and was a brilliant blue. As a true snow lover, I had my camera with me and was able to take a fabulous picture.......the half-timbered pub, the tree, the lights, the snow.....oh it was just so beautiful!

It is my intention to try and invoke Sod's Law (although said law was disproved in a QED or Horizon programme some years ago, with the aid of a slice of buttered toast and a carpet) and "predict" that this Christmas will be mild and damp!

So.......this Christmas will be mild and damp. :yahoo:

ref the % chance.

the run Paul has quoted does in fact give a 528 well down over the country 24-26 December.

The bad news is that only 2 out of the last 5 have given a 528 line somewhere over the UK. Taking it back further then 7 out of the 14 last runs have shown this, so, yes on the basis of 00z runs by CFS from 21/10 the odds are about even for some part of the country to have the 528 line over them. That is NOT to say it will snow on Xmas Day.

One notable aspect of the weather during the last few christmases is for cold air to be very close to the UK on the big day itself.

In fact since 2000, there has only been 1 christmas where the entire christmas period 24th-26th could be classed as mild that being 2002 a thoroughly unseasonal christmas spell of weather.

Christmas 2000, 2001, 2004 and 2005 I would all class as average or cold, 2003 became cool on boxing day and even last year we were under the influence of high pressure so it was average conditions.

Yes the odds of a white christmas are usually always quite low, but the oods of a cold christmas perhaps shouldn;t be if you factor in the trends of recent christmas's.

Still licking my wounds from xmas 05 where Norwich paid out (6-1?) but London(8-1?) didnt :)

Promised not to get so excited and blow the rent again!

but alas,,, teleconnections of late n all that :)

The current chart for christmas day looks awesome. 528 dam line all the way down to north France and looks like a cold northerly for the UK. But you watch, it will all go belly up with about 2 weeks to go :)

Zonality will scream in I think!
