This day will stay in my memory for a LONG time. We've had another inch or so in the last few hours and it seems as if this precip will remain as snow throughout the evening now. Proper flakes still falling. -0.2c.

Well, Biggin Hill Aiport gave up at 1400 and issued a NOTAM closing the airport until 0700 tomorrow. Still snow falling fairly heavily here, and with out increased height, I expect it to continue.

Wondering if the roads are going to be even more dangerous tomorrow morning, after a freeze and continuing snow.

Don't care how much i'm paid...not risking my car or life to travel 16 miles on the roads up here! :D

Tonbridge, Kent - still snow lightly, temp has been +0.5C for about 4 hours. Radar shows that there's not much more to come, we didn't get anywhere near what Met Office predicted, nothing you could describe as heavy snow! It's now starting to melt and turn to slush, the awful stage, but it was a really good event whilst it lasted, especially for those along the North Downs, in London & the Thames valley.

Still getting snow and have done 4 some 24 hours now.

Temps have dropped slightly darkness now approaching.

Yeah turned to rain here and everything has become slushy on our massive 1" of snow, have to admit very disappointed with the amounts here and don't think we're alone in this, other parts particularly the coastline has seen relatively small amounts. I wonder why?

not just the coast, let me tell you. 3 cm here max. Rubbish.

Thanks for your kind wishes i_luv_snow, i'd probably be very jealous in this situation.

Hasn't been as heavy as this since about 6am and dew point is still -1.1, however flakes are a little on the large side so sign of a change on the way?

we're still getting snow here near tunbridge wells. Looks like there's plenty of the light to moderate stuff on the way. I cna't see any big band of ppn coming from france though, so assuming that the best of it is already past, and we'll be in lighter snow/rain till it finishes.

You can see the ppn is beginning to pivot somewhat at this point and head slightly more nw. This is where the orientation of the mild sector boundary goes askew and we wait and see on which side of it we end up.

You can! that mild sector's about a mere 20/25 miles east of me — eeeek :) Stay away from my patch, you dismal beast of a weather phenomenon! :(:(

I can see the sleet marching West on the NW radar, do we know how far it's going to go and this discussion about it pivoting round and colder air coming back, how is that going to work?

Heavy snow here now. Seemed a slight thaw earlier, then went out and built a snowman with the kids and was getting colder again. What a day!!!!!

Just over 150mm here in north london and I cannot remember scenes like this for many years.

The orange glow last night was powerful enough to shine through my curtains and create a very strange glow inside.

The fir tree has a broken branch on the bottom left due to weight of snow and there are numerous deep drifts around here.

Todays summary:

Morning: -1c slight covering of 'polystyrene' snow from over night and continuing flurries. Bitter and looked hopeful for later.

Midday: Snow started, only light and continued throughout afternoon.

Afternoon: snow turned to sleet at 3pm, then to quite heavy rain, very gusty.

Most snow now washed away.

Disappointing!!! :(:(
