I see the rollercoaster of emotions is in full throttle mode again this morning...

For those of you with cloud cover this morning, just remember that the sun is pretty much at it's strongest at this time of year.

TORRO have a convective discussion going on.

Ah yes!

A TORRO CONVECTIVE DISCUSSION has been issued at 08:30GMT on Friday 26th June 2009

Valid from/until: 0830-2100GMT on Friday 26th June 2009 for the following regions of the United Kingdom & Eire:

Central Eire Wales Merseyside Midlands E Anglia SE and Central southern England

THREATS

Isolated funnels/tornadoes, hail, CG lightning, torrential rainfall, gusty winds.

SYNOPSIS

Plume of high theta-w air is in place this morning. Showers/isol thunderstorms (elevated) are ongoing, especially around Wilts/Gloucs - this latter area is associated with a small vort max/MCV which is progressing WNW, and may well be the focus for further development across Wales this morning, and Eire this afternoon. In the wake of this, fairly cloudy skies are expected, which will limit heating somewhat. Even so, the atmosphere is uncapped and unstable, and any sunshine should allow showers/thunderstorms to quickly develop - in addition, storms over NE France may migrate into SE England this morning. The main threats will be torrential rain/flash flooding, and CG lightning. However, if surface based storms develop, and threat for isolated funnels/weak convergence zone tornadoes exists, along with gusty winds. In addition, more powerful cells could produce brief marginally-severe hail. With a fairly pronounced convergence zone in place, storms may become reasonably organised, despite weak upper flow. The flow is stronger across Wales/Eire, with the result than one or more small clusters may develop here.

The lack of strong shear/overall storm organisation means that any severe threat will be from pulse-type updraughts - thus a watch is not warranted ATTM.

Its gone very dark here, i had hoped it would be delayed a little to try and get the temps up a bit more first 15.1C currently, so am just expecting rain rather than anything electrical

Interesting here - torro says we (Gloucestershire and Wiltshire) are currently under an "MCV".

"mesoscale convective vortex (MCV) --A low-pressure center within an MCS that pulls winds into a circling pattern, or vortex. With a core only 30 to 60 miles wide and 1 to 3 miles deep, an MCV is often overlooked in standard weather analyses. But an MCV can take on a life of its own, persisting for up to 12 hours after its parent MCS has dissipated. This orphaned MCV will sometimes then become the seed of the next thunderstorm outbreak. An MCV that moves into tropical waters, such as the Gulf of Mexico, can serve as the nucleus for a tropical storm or hurricane."

Certinly not writeing anything off today with the wind direction.

If Kane gets anything, then I shall perk up as hes down stream for any storms today, for the first time I can recall!
