'UKSupercell' post='1560828' date='7 Jul 2009, 02:57 PM']2ND BIG(ISH) STORM OF THE YEAR!!!

Biggish storm just passed overhead, still raining moderately, been raining heavily but not torrentially i'd say for the last 20 minutes or so with about 3 heavy showers before this we've had earlier, all with heavy rain and thunder.

This one though, saw about 5 flashes of lightning including a cloud-ground which wasn't far away as the thunder sounded the second after and the same with all the other strikes, lightning right after so the storm is right on top of us here, no hail though this time which surprised me.

AS FOR THE CLOUDS - I couldn't be more dissapointed right now, A DARK BLUE, BLACK EVEN LAYER OF DEFINITE WALL CLOUD crossed just to the north of me, with us getting i'd say the precipitation of the cell, and the wind was very very gusty, the fractus or scud was really dangling down and the cloud was unbelievably ragged and low. I'm certain i've just witnessed possibly my first ever proper wall cloud. Unfortunately, as I don't have a camera I had to ask to borrow my mum's and then brother's cameras which are both pretty damn good, both hadn't been charged and had no battery......GREAT.

Ended up wasting about 1 minute that's all and using my mobile phone camera which isn't bad but not too good but what a surprise, as the clouds are moving so quickly at the moment, the wall cloud formation seemed to disperse a bit or just vanish to the north of me and I'm really angry cos I really wanted to get a picture of that to show you guys cos that was a definite wall cloud it was so dark and low and I know what wall clouds from american supercells look like lol.

Ah well.....I have 1 or 2 pics i'll put up later but the quality yet again won't be brilliant.

Well hopefully this is what is steaming towards me!!! Will definitely be keeping all eyes skyward just in case :D

Bring in more storms!!!

I think I have quite possibly the most boring weather here at the moment. Absolutely no rain and nothing coming my way on the radar but loads of cloud so the sun cant even come through. How annoying.

Yeah, I hope you get a good storm mate!

Oh by the way, anvils all around but 1 particular anvil to the north-west displaying large mammatus.

I reckon somewhere today surely will report a funnel, waterspout or small tornado, everywhere is saying conditions are favourable for twisting up there so let's hope so.

Great shots! You can really see the wall of rain!

Brilliant pics w0033944!!!!

Raining lightly/moderately atm! Pants so far, lol

Sky black to my North and Northwest - hope this isn't another even closer repeat of earlier - not heard any thunder still :D

OK calling all Leicester-heads! :D You should be getting the storm that has swept west of me in Notts, the clouds are totally Kansas for this storm, and since my sheild split the storm as it went around Notts, I need to get my storm fix from anyone in its path! Can anyone tell me if its producing super amounts of thunder and lightning yet?? It passed Derby about 20min ago and is almost on top of Leicester now! Clouds are truly magnificent for this storm! :D

I know what you are saying though, it seems everyone is having a great (stormy) time apart from us! We have had the same bland weather (ie wall to wall cloud, no sun, no heating) for three weeks now.

Hope you get something soon.

Afternoon all :D

Just had 3 massive storms, with frequent thunder and lightning and some very torrential rain!

I see another one coming my way!

Having had hardly any storms this year, i Think today has made up for it :D

Gone VERY dark here - thought I heard thunder but it was just after a motorbike, grr!!

In fact the sky is black/dark blue - good sign, just will it come over, and will it thunder???

get yourself over to The No Storms Club and let it all out....This forum is reserved for people experiencing storms (ie: southerners...) lol.

Cloudwatcher, that's kinda a load of rubbish to be frank, the south had storms the weekend of glastonbury and yesterday and today, the north had storms yesterday as well though and today and pretty much all last week unlike the south that had damn all last week but just had sunshine and heat, if anything the north has had more storms than the south this year and that's a fact.

It's a load of rubbish in my point of view that the "south-east has the most storms in the UK" as far as I know, places like the midlands and lincolnshire always get a lot of the action and the north have their fair share as well.

No...jealousy is when you are standing out in the courtyard with beaming hot sunshine with anvils all around you!! lol

No no no, Harry. Jealousy is when you hear that Inverness is entirely cut-off by snowdrifts, only to look out the window and see it raining! :D
