A light snow shower ahead of the main band has left a dusting in Derby on all surfaces even the road. Bodes well for the main band?

Latest radar is showing the band now getting more intense south of manchester, yet east of that seems to be a fizzling..

1.4 and a dp of 0.1 now here. Feels much warmer than earlier and with rain up north I have no hope left in me again! Good luck to those in the east, I'm off to drink wine

Damn... looks like I an going to lose my first ever Ice Day in bright sunshine. Temp has risen to -0.3C. Still, plenty of chances over the coming days to record one.

Cloud thickened markedly over the last 20 minutes, so any minute now according to the radar.

A bit O/T but what are your current thoughts for Jan, Ian? If you say potentially record breaking mild then I'm ordering a sledge right now.

Don't give up hope just yet, think you might be pleasantly suprised.

Temp of -0.5 and weather gizmo says snow, so that will do for me lol. Interesting that I still have upper air temp of below -6c and similar and lower approaching from the north

The rate of temp increase has reduced a lot in the last half hour. It was 0.38per hour, it's now 0.019per hour. At this rate of change, the temp should begin to drop again pretty soon (currently 0.1oc). I just need the dp to drop another degree lower (currently -1.5oc) and I should be set for anything that does arrive.

From an IMBY point of view, this is looking very promising now. I will probably get the stuff that is over North Wales - this is intensifying. Also, despite the fact we are bemoaning the fact that it is moving more east than south, this will actually help us. If it was going directly south then we would have an even briefer window of snow, but it will slide across us rather than go straight through the region.
