I think the lighter precip will fall as rain but as the heavier bursts arrive the precip has left time to melt as it falls so is snow/sleet. Temp here steady at 1.4c, unsure of dew point.

1.3c here Tommy and a dewpoint of -0.2c

Doesn't look good. Still nothing falling here, which is odd as I thought it would have arrived by now.

Started off as rain earlier...but now heavy snow!! Should imagine it's wet snow, possibly caused by evaporative cooling...

The 'milder' air with rain moving in over the cold snow fields is creating mist and fog around here with visibility dropping all the time.

I cannot believe how rapid the thaw is today.

For the first time since Thursday afternoon, I can now see some of the tarmac on my road. :wallbash:

:yahoo::yahoo: Sorry but that Ice this morning was totally dangerous!

Heavy wet snow in Biggin Hill 20 miles South of London on the North Downs -Height making it less marginal .New weather station is not working as it now say +1c and dew point has dropped to 0.7 . This is so marginal and I might just preserve the snow in the back garden. If this had been snow from this morning we would have at least another 4ins of snow,

Edit Heavy snow now falling temps are falling fast -starting to settle on cars.

Still a way off hitting Cambridge, hopefully it will be snow all the way through. Likely PPN will reach me at dusk at the earliest

They are having fun on the south central thread if anyone wants a look, my parents are in Hampshire and have 0c with heavy snow with large snow flakes they have 2 inches of snow already. :yahoo:

Went from 0c and ice this morning here to 4c and rain now. :wallbash: Not much rain though, it's on the radar but not much falling.

temp here in north norfolk (near fakenham) has not risen above 0c since thursday and we have 5-6 inches of snow still laying around.

I see met office/bbc are now giving severe weather warnings for sleet/snow/rain but no mention of how much we'll get (if any)

would any of you experienced model watchers/forecasters/weather enthusiasts be able to shed some light on tonights possible event??

would i be likely to get more snow? is this a very marginal event tonight?

your views/experience would be very helpful as i have to go to work tonight! (16 mile drive on minor roads and i have no 4x4)

many thanks

Its -1c here in little clacton..Essex.. and light rain is falling on frozen ground..Crazy weather . Very tricky about now and if its going to rain then that will wash the salt away on the roads...its a tricky decision time for highway staff, as when darkness falls the temp. is going to get lower...Snow would be better

Out in the furthest reaches of the SE zone (north Bucks) nothing! Warmest day since last Thursday (2 degrees approx) and the lying snow is beginning to melt a little. See what the evening brings...
